I will be in France, Germany, Belgium for a week from sometime during the period mid-June to mid July. Would like a day or two of hunting. This is for pure enjoyment, get fresh air and out of the rat race.

Are there any possibilities at this time of year?

thanks

If you want to stay a week and travel through 3 nations, then you will have VERY FEW time for hunting, unless it's a week in each nation......

What problem will I have getting a German hunting license and rifle permit?

I will have my USA hunting license and rifle export license/permit Would be entering Germany by car from Belgium.

Wild boar seems to be the best choice for Germany???

thanks

No, I have a few hours of business in each nation Can only take time for 1-2 days for hunting so need to choose the optimal place/species. But remember, this is just for having some relaxation. I really don't care if I don't shoot anything. Smiler

Yes you will need a German hunting licens (Jagdschein 30€) and a German hunting insurance (Jagd-Haftpflicht-Versicherung 30€), and to apply for these you will need a invitation.
But I guess it would be easier to ask a German hunting agency for these papers

Thanks Bjarne

Interested,

In either country, you'll have to obtain a hunting license and deal with the issues of gun permits. I'm not familiar with the rules in Belgium, but we have esteemed Belgian members here (e.g. Andre Mertens),who might be of further assistance.

As far as France and Germany is concerned, yes it will be possible to go hunting during the period mid-June to mid-July. No, it will not be the best part of the year to do so (warm weather normally slows down activity - and you'll probably be just a tad early for the roe rut), but seasons are open for both roe and wild boar. Depending on the federal state you hunt in, female reds, sika and fallow may also be open (July). Hunting will most likely be from stands with a possibility for some still hunting - mornings and evenings.

You need to locate somebody who will help you organize the hunting, licenses etc. In Germany, hunting is not very commercialized - it is kind of rare to find commercial offers for hunts. But it is possible. Right off the top of my head, I can think of two AR members who *might* be able to provide valuable input. The live links should help you locate these valued members via PM.

One is our very own "Gerry" - a US lad well versed in German hunting, and with experience in organizing German hunts for foreigners.

The other is "Monastery-Forester", who works on an estate which offers hunting.

If you wanted to look for a more commercial option, you could try these guys (supposedly quite expensive, but what the heck...):
