pete i too use a folding ladder and wire brushed it to get paint to stick not very well though, land rover/ali paint would work but damm expenzive, but the best high seat i have now are from swimming pools, where life gards sit on but there only 8ft -10ft high and are ali as well they have built in seat and a fold over sort off table which makes a good rest, but to honest both the ladder and the pool seat are just plain metal now, and it does not seem to bother deer or fox at all.

Seeing as Deerdogs mentioned painting highseats, any ideas how to paint an alloy one? I have a folding ladder (on sale at 35 at B&Q!) which I want to convert to a highseat. I have tried one of special etching primers but was not really impressed..A friend used an "acid wash" on his and it has turned out great and the paint finish on top is a lot more durable. I am trying to source some of the acid wash, but not having much luck so far. Any other ideas? Would scuffing the surface with a wire brush in an electric drill help? I was also wondering what they use on LandRovers? Regards, Pete

Hi guys, I have just bought a load of Double seats, and used hammerite on them to great effect. The box tube was left out to weather and it has lost some of its greasyness before painting. We've done seats with hammerite in the past and they worked really well. dunno if Aluminium seats work the same?!?!? FB
