It is a new national, not international database. Until know, firearms were registered in literally hundreds of different local registers and data bases.

Now the government and her agencies have direct and much faster access to this kind of information than before.

So far, I have not read about plans to generate a EU-wide base for firearms.

Germany currently has 174 separate (almsot all at County level) Firearms registration offices. These Offices are required to send all of their Firearms owner files to a new German Federal Central Registry in Hamburg.

This information will at a later date given to the European Union HQ in Brussels to comprise a Central Database of all EU Member State Firearms Owners.

..... and Yes, Benjamin, that ultimately means when you are stopped in any EU country for a traffic violation, involved in traffic accident, enter/depart any EU country into/out of the UK, or are required to have a Passport or Identity Card check - your name will be Flagged as a Firearms Owner.

Oh, this I was not aware of. Thanks for the clarification. I am still optimistic that the EU in in's current form will not survive the Euro-mess they created.

Happy New Year and Weidmann's Heil, by the way!

FYI: there is a national data base in France and you must register all firearms then you can get a pass called "European firearms card"; so I would not be surprised that the EEC establish an European file BOOM
And that's more complicated for the handguns Roll Eyes
Even if nothing is done against the bandits (known by thr police) who have AK47! Mad) killpc

“Als erste zivilisierte Nation haben wir ein Waffenregistrierungsgesetz. Unsere Straßen werden dadurch sicherer werden; unsere Polizei wird effizienter und die Welt wird unserem Beispiel in die Zukunft folgen!”
(Adolf Hitler, Reichsparteitag am 15. 09.1935)

("The first civilized nation we have a weapons registry law. Our streets will be more secure, our police more efficient and the world will follow our lead into the future")

It´s the first step, to confiscate your gun!

And it's a fact! Why do we have so many old weapons from before 1900. Or from the time before the second world war. It was the missing of a weapons registration after the first world war, prevented the Allies to disarm the civilian population over a large area. Only now, we have the situation that the state knows about the legal weapons. It´s not a problem, to locate every legal gun, to confiscate and destroy this. When you see alone, which was destroyed in old hunting rifles, small arms and other historical stuff, the last three years, what generations of us before had saved over two world wars. The economic crisis of the 20s, the Nazi era and, despite death threats, by the time of the occupation. It is shameful.

Much as I sympathize with you, the Adolf Hitler quote has been declared an urban myth ...
http://saf.org/pub/rkba/genera...gusAntiGunQuotes.htm

Supposedly he did say this though:

On another note, didn't you know that the UN was invented to provide sinecures to distant relatives of third-world dictators?

Hmmm.... I don´t know. But I mean, I saw befor a few years a movie, as Hitler spoke this words at the Reichtag. I mean, only the date could be wrong.
