We call them "faisan obscur" (dark pheasant), same race as the ringneck, only a variation. I have both on my hunting lease.

3 shots do not make a group, they show a point of aim or impact.
5 shots are a group.

James,

Is this type of pheasant also known as Japanese green?

Cheers

Johan I guess you are right - here is a pic I took last year where it stands on the left by a ring necked on the right - tho compared to Top Predator`s - one can see a difference on colour of the wings - sorry bit far...

Purty fer sure. When I lived in England as a kid a ringneck would commit suicide against the living room plate glass window a couple times a year..mmmmm.....good.

I believe that is actually a Sezchuan Pheasant. A very close relative of the ringneck as opposed to a melanistic ringneck which is a color variation of the ringneck like an albino. They roost in trees as opposed to the ground and have been introduced into states like Michigan in the US where there are many trees and declining farmland production acres.

TP,

That is a melanistic pheasant. They are not a pigmented version of the ringneck, but rather a breed in their own right unlike the white ones which are albino ringnecks.. I release a few hundred of them (black ones)each year.

The problem here in the UK is that all the pheasants interbreed at the end of the shooting season so you get a lot of crosses, but this does kick up some really interesting colours.

Season has started for Partridge grouse and wildfowl here and initial reports are good on wild grey and french numbers. Most driven shooting will not get properly underway until later in the month. Pheasants come in on Oct 1st.

Our first day is on 14th Oct for mostly Duck, and a few partridges so I'll post some photo's after the event!!

At the moment I am focusing on picking some sloes to put in my gin this weekend and tryng to get a Fallow buck in the chiller!!
