What is the word on this new round over in Europe? I am thinking of building one on a pre-64 model 70 action, but am having considerable trouble finding brass, much less ammo, here statewide. Does the round appear to have a future, or not? Thanks.

Well
Rigor mortis can't be far away Big Grin No other maker than sako cambers it. Last time I checked cases for handloading was not available....

There are other more established rounds in 9,3, why go for a 9,3X66? Suggest you consider a 9,3X62 or 9,3X64 Brenneke thumb

Cheers

Been there, done that.

I like the idea of 4200 ft/lbs from a 473 casehead. No bolt face to modify or rail work to worry about, plus I get to use the entire length of the mag and crimp Nosler bullets in their cannelure.

Take 9.3x64 instead..if U want 9.3mm,if thats not enough then 375HH which I have. thumb

9.3X66 is Sakos own cartridge, availability will be/is poor and wery COSTLY. thumbdown
Personally I dont understand at all why they brought thiskind of cartridge to market,In their brochyre/announcements they tell "it beats ewen the legendary 375HH" eek2 bull
I laughed my ass of when reading thiskind of BS. roflmao

Of 9.3mm the 9.3X64 Brenneke is most powerfull, next step is 375HH. thumb
Forget about any 9366 which can dissapear as soon it arrived. Its waist of money.

Cool,

Hey, 9.3x62.....

Like Johan, I don't want to bust your bubble. I've noted your posts and keen interest on this, the 9.3x66 - newest whiz-bang from Sako. Like yourself, I've got my own dreams, wishes & preferences for some rifles & calibers I'd like own but so far here in the home of the 9.3x62 this appears to have been a slow and troublesome birth for Sako. Unless they or someone else can state otherwise, I've yet to see a rifle, ammo or brass cases in any of the gunstores I visit and I spend alot of time lurking about gun store sales counters.....

Also yet to hear of any over(under)whelming hunter/shooter response or comment. Net, other than your interest, dead silence.

Please continue enjoying your vision of owning a 9.3x66 Sako; but like Johan said Rigor Mortis can't be far away unless I'm so out of touch with the industry that I cannot tell the signs of a terminal illness.

To verify this - I just called two of my German Buchsenmacher buddies, in Frankurt & in Weisbaden both of who claimed they received the press release from their distributors last year and have yet to receive any customer interest or queries.

Smiler perhaps there's a 9.3x68 in the wings somewhere........

Cheers,

Gerry

I built a 9,3X66 last year and took it to RSA and shot Kudu, Black wildebeest, Springbuck, Blesbuck and Impala with it. I´m happy with the rifle and the round but I would hesitate to recomend it to someone else.......

Cases will probably be hard to get, the 7X64 could probably be a possible way to get cases. Thay will probably turn out a bit short but I suppose it could work.

I got hold of 50 Sako cases thru a good frined with contacts at Sako so I´m safe Cool

The 9,3X64 is the way to go if you would need a little more punch! I built a 9,3X64 for a friend last year and we got the impression that this classic round is really great!

I first heard about this cartridge a couple of years ago and wanted to get one made up. I ended up abandoning that project due to the fact that I was unable to secure ammunition or cases in Australia. I even contacted the Sako distributor, who said that he could get me the rifle, but they (Sako) were not planning on supplying ammunition in this region even on a limited bases for one customer...

I ended up going with the 9.3x64mm on an FN 98 action and am very happy with that choice. I also had a 9.3x62mm built up on a Browning 1895 lever action at the same time. I love both my rifles and would take them anywhere...

Cheers,

Rich

The caliber is not available outside Finland, end of story.

No brass, no ammo, no rifles, NO NO NO NO NO NO!

Don't know why Sako invited all the American gun rag writers over if the bastards weren't going to sell it stateside.

Can't agree more you there, Elias! I got 9,3x62 myself, and in my opinion it's a great caliber for my purpose (hunting mooses in finland). But what becomes of 9,3x66... Well, you've said it already Smiler
