I've been on their web site and when I try to view their centre fire rifle cartridges in their product section, it links with Norma. Does Norma now make there rifle cartridges? What about the old RWS line that Norma does not make? Who will now supply those calibres? Does anybody have any information?

RWS rifle brass is made by Norma, but cartridges are loaded and assembled in Germany. Carcano

quote:Really? Norma makes brass for every man and his dog (Weatherby, Blaser etc etc), but I have never heard they make brass for RWS?? Maybe I just learned something new?? RWS offers quite a few calibers that Norma does not offer (8x68S springs to mind), so are these calibers made at Norma as well?? I really don't know, but I can't help being a bit sceptical about this. I find a lot of difference between RWS and Norma brass, but maybe this is a "sugar pill" type thing?? Btw, the RWS web-site has picked up of late, it used to be totally useless, these days it just seems incomplete . At least now there is some amount of information, don't see anything about specific brass types offered, though. Maybe the link to Norma has something to do with common ownership?? Btw, it just occurred to me, that the site I was referring to in my last post, is probably the US importer for RWS products. Maybe they are also just the importer for Norma, Steyr Mannlicher and other products, and thus the reference to these products?? Richie, which web-site did you refer to to originally?? - mike

I understand than Norma was taken over by the RWS-Dynamit Nobel group a few months ago. Am I right? montero

Both of them belong to RUAG. RUAG also makes its own brass, and also made cases for Hirtenberger, on contract (I stood beside the machines in Thun and saw the cases being ejected - a nice sight, all this shining brass). Hirtenberger however are now down and out, as I read yesterday. No more ammo business. Was expectable. Carcano

In a recent Norma catalogue they do make brass for several companies. Aleko

Hello, The RWS site that I was viewing was a US site. I did try a couple of European ones during my search, but the links were bad. I'm just a bit worried that nobody is going to make cartridges for the likes of the 6.5x68, 8x64, 8x68, 9.3x64 or 10.75x68... I live in Australia and recently purchased the last 6 boxed of 9.3x62 RWS brass at a local shop. What started me thinking was the clerks comment under his breath that this will be the last we’ll see of the RWS stuff… I should have asked what he meant by his comment. There is a very nice 8x68 that I would love to buy, but now I’m scared that I’ll not be able to get any ammo for it.

Richie, I don't know who is making what but on RWS site www.dnrws.com you still can see the RWS products. I have just received a few hundred of RWS brass (9,3x62 and 9,3x64) and 9,3 bullets so I am safe for now B.Martins

Gentlemen you can take it easy...I called the RWS people in Germany today The U.S. Importer is obviously not very interested in bringing in the full range of products that the company has to offer. I guess it's beacause most people don't see why they shall by a foreign brand instead of the home rolled stuff The easiest way to make them change their mind is flood the mailbox and bomb the fax / JOHAN

Richie, obviously nobody can guarantee that a manufacturer will keep making a particular caliber forever. However, if you choose reasonably popular cartridges (i.e stay away from anything overly exotic), I think you'll be fine. The cases/ammo may not be imported into Australia, but both the 9.3x62 and the 8x68S are very popular in Europe. So, I think I'm with Johan on this one. The website you checked is indeed a website for the US importer, don't forget. - mike

quote:Johan, It is unfortunate as they make good product. It may seem strange but my favourite loading from them is in a small caliber for my 243. It is the 105 grn T-Mantle. It is the best load I have ever seen in a 243 including alot of handloads.

Mike Smith I guess you are one of very few Americans who buy ammo, reloading products that are not made in USA. I guess most buy Federal, Winchester or any of the "el cheapo" brands. I think that RWS makes some very good products, I really like their brass / JOHAN

I better start checking if I can get any 9.3x62 stuff here in Alberta or start ordering dies...I still have some RWS and Norma stuff left, but that supply will end one of these days... Frans Terra Incognita North America www.terrahunt.com

I've been trying to find a good RWS link that is outside the USA, but so far both the links mentioned in this topic discussion are one in the same, USA. I've tried to use their e-contact link to ask if they could help point me to a distributor, but that link didn't even provide an e-mail address to send it to. When you hit submit, it just sits there... That is strange when you consider that it is an e-form you fill out... Their web-based catalogue also links with nothing and will not download... I would love to tell RWS of my troubles with their site, but I don't even know how to get a hold of them for that???
