Here in Texas we have wild pigs. Some are mixed with European/Russian imported stock. A lot of false claims have been made of these weighing 500lbs or more. Most of these are lies, wild 'guestimates' or domesticated pigs that have been released after reaching those weights. To paraphrase an old saying "scales don't llie and liars don't use scales." Truth be told I doubt very few, if any, free ranging 500+ lb pigs are killed every year. What are the average weights on the wild pigs that you kill in Europe? Thanks, capt david

Here boars weight can seldom reach 110/120 kg. (240/265 lbs); the real max. could be around 145 kg. (320 lbs.), the prey of a lifetime. They are real wild boars, not crossbred. This is a good example of a local old BIG boar.

P.S. To be precise, above are "live weight". Thanks mho. Wink

Hi guys,
in Italy it will be dificolt to find wildboar larger than 250-270 lbs, but in one case I see an outstanding exemplar that weight 345 lbs (life weight). A friend have a nice photo from this monster.
In east Europe wild boar can be larger, 300-350 lbs is the standard for a big boar, in some cases up to 500 lbs.
I meen even realy wild boars.
Merry Christmas

One issue to be considered when we talk about weight, is how we measure this property. In Europe (at least the parts I'm familiar with), animal weights are normally "dressed" weights. In other parts of the World, it is quite common to specify weight on the hoof.

A boar of 120-140 kg (dressed) is possible in the area of France where I hunt pigs. But it is the exception. Normal weight for a decent size boar would be more like 70-90 kg (dressed).

The further east you go, the heavier the pigs will become. In areas of Bellarus, Ukraine and Russia, it would not be impossible to find pigs of 100-150 kg (dressed). Larger pigs (~ 300 kg) exist and are taken, but they remain the exception.

Here is an exceptional boar from Bellarus... (When you encounter one of these, you'll think it is a piano on legs... Smiler )

Merry Christmas to all of you

By my experience:
the Italian biggest, 170 kg, about 340 lbs, taken by a friend of mine. Funny because the hunter was with pants and underpants down because (excuse the word) he was shitting. Big Grin

my biggest 135kg, about 270 lbs, it has been my absolute FIRST ONE.

the biggest take by a known hunter 330 kg, about 660 lbs, taken in Ukraina.

bye

Hi Everybody!
Her in France 130 to 140 Kgs are really not common and high average is more close to 90/110kgs (of course depend on the area) nevetheless, to "make" nice trophies the rule in a lot of hunters associations is normally to don't kill them and to select under 50/60kgs or up to 100kgs so it is not always easy to decide to shoot!
The biggest I have seen in a hunt news paper was from Turkey (but it it not Europe for me): 325kgs.
