I really liked the looks of the new Argali two tone hunting trousers until I found a website that had them for sale. EEK! E359! WTF is that about? Are they made in Bavaria by virgins on a 1200 year old mill?

Who else makes two tone green microfiber hunting trousers? I am thinking $200 is a good place to stop looking. At current economy the new two-tone Argalis are almost $585. For a pair of pants.

D99,

I very much agree with you..the price of some of the latest hunting clothes is ridiculous.

Deerhunter do their ram trousers is a plain green and while I never had much luck with the jacket, the trousers have stayed waterproof..

Regards,

Pete

Here 99% of hunters use (very) cheap clothing, often military surplus; the land is very steepy, bushy, with lot of bramble-bushes; especially trousers don't last for long.

Wildboar,

It is the same in Sicily.

I have been wearing Columbia super-chinos for summer stalking, and the discount Finnish (made in China) hunting suit for colder weather.

The cheap Finnish suit is kind of crappy though.

I always liked the look of Fjallraven, and Blaser stuff but the price is retarded.

Check out Swedteam, they are good priced , and very good quality. They have much various gore tex and other clothes. Plus they are in good nordic sizes, and not "ching tong " sizes.

There usually isn't any good cheap clothing to be found. I've started paying a little more for more quality and haven't regretted it yet.

However, I've been thinking about some of the Swazi gear (heaven help the pocketbook) and recently someone saved me some big bucks by stating the Swazi gear hadn't been much better than my regular gear. So...another costly expenditure temporarily diverted.

The chinese stuff I am talking about is Jagkti Jakt or something similiar to that.

Not bad, but not as good as Columbia stuff.

And Columbia stuff is cheap!

Per I just looked at Swedteam, not sure why German stuff comes in such tiny sizes and Norwegian stuff comes in full-size man sizes.

Norway must have good food!

I like the looks of the Swedteam hermelin trousers, but I wish they were green.

Like Pete says I think the Deer hunter Ram trousers are pretty good. They're extremely comfortable, pretty silent and water resistant. They're not very hard wearing but they're pretty cheap which is just as well as they last about a year for me.

I decided to try higher quality and sprung for some Harkila pro hunters at three times the price. Better quality, less sweaty, considerably noisier and definately not 3 times tougher.

Without doubt the best have been my Nomad breeks but they are cold weather only.

One click and I found this price. I am sure
you can reach € 160 (which is unfortunatelly at the moment about 230 $)

Hi Guys

I bought these Elk trousers from Swedteam and they are excellent with wellington boots.

Especially good through thick heather and brush . The leather is quite thick and they are almost water-proof. The down side is they are about £160. The plus side is they are difficult to burn a hole through with cigar ash Wink

Hunting is getting as close as you can, shooting is getting as far away as possible.

Here in the states, Columbia is often times the best compromise also. I receive catalogs here at the house with hunting clothing in them that the prices are simply insulting. Plus the models in the catalog just look down right flaming, err, I mean non-hunters to be pc about it. I'd rather spend that type of cash on a rifle and scope.

Cazador,

You also live in Texas and don't have real weather.

I'll let the swipe at Texas pass. No, it will never compare to the great white north weather-wise and someday I hope to hunt in your home state. I don't just hunt in Texas.

i have mostly bought if from Norteam Engros in norway, they have a large sale also and they have much good clothes, i have dropped down 4 sizes in trousers from 66C to 62 since i was sick to i had an surgery last year and training , but my hunting Swedtema pants are in 64 to have good way to move and to have warm clothes under when its cold.

I dont like the trousers with leather on, they need some leatherfat on to be soft and they squak when they get into brushes.

the HJK, our Paratroppers tested Swedteam suits some years ago with many else uniforms from UK,USA, Germany etc , all were gore tex, but Sweateam won , i think they got ca 350 field days on every suit.

so for me i go with swedteam, for sizes and service and good shopwner that has much else if he cant get an specific item due to sold out etc.

Norrona is good, but very pricey, expect to pay 1000 dollar for an suit, and they are a bit finicky on customer help if something happend, Bergans is less prcier and better consumer help, with them its no argument if the clothing is ruined they ship or repair it for free for you.

Per,

I have the Jahti Jakt suit, and I don't really care for it. It's distinctly cheaply made.

I have a Laksen fleece windstopper jacket I have been wearing almost daily during the colder months for 2 years. The quality difference compared to Browning, Cabelas, and Columbia is amazing!

This fall I have used Cabelas Whitetail insulated Gore Tex, Norrøna uninsulated Gore Tex and Deerhunter with some kind of membrane.

The weather have been extreme at times with rain, sleet and winds as I never have seen before the 10 years + I have hunted Northern Norway.

Cabelas was warm, snug and surprisingly light, but the insulation sucked water as a wick, and I was wet to the elbows regardless how hard I tried to avoid water to enter the cuff.

Deerhunter was left in the car after one outing.
Their tex-membrane did not hold up to the water at all. Leaking seams seems to be the main problem.

The only garment that stood up to the crazy weather was Norrøna Gore Tex. The model I used was the Forelhogna, wich is in a light bronze color, but blends in surprisingly well after all. This is a shell garment with a mesh lining. Underneath I only used Devold Active wool underwear when walking and stalking, and supplied with a polartech fleece jacket when sitting on the pass.

This is costly clothes, but so is my hunt.
And Norrøna stood up to the test.
My buddy used Harkila clothes with Gore Tex, and he was also wery satisfied with the performence. But again, this is also an expencive set with a wery good track record.

Hunting localy in more normal weather for roe and groose, I´m wery pleased with the Deerhunter, but again, the set I have dont like downpour to much.

In dry weather near home, old army pants and light fleece are usefull, but in my part of the woods, rain will suddenly appair, so I always keep a light Helly Hansen green rain parka in the pack sack.

But as a general comment...yeas, the prices are skyrocketing these days.
