I've just been sat here reminiscing about my favourite stalking trips. So I thought to myself lets find out about others experiences.

1. What's your favourite species to stalk (boar, Roe , Fallow etc)?

2. Where?

3. What with? What rifle do you pull from your cupboard time after time to go stalking?

My favourites
1. Roe and Muntjac. The muntjac just because I find them so elusive and enchanting in woodland stalking and the Roe because I don't get to them very often.

2. Wiltshire mostly just because it's completely different ground to where I live.

3. With out doubt at the moment the Blaser R93 30-06 comes out every time.

For me it would have to be:

1. Red deer in the rut, just hearing them roar sends shivers down my spine.

2. Scotland, scenery is stunning and gives me a badly needed workout!

3. This is a bit of a challenge, I love my Sauer 202 in 308 for low ground stalking but take the Sendero in 300 Win Mag for the Stags in the rut.

Scotland,
Roe Buck stalking,
1st thing in the morning in mid summer when they have those beautiful chestnut coats,
with my mighty .243!
not the most productive stalking, but very enjoyable to see the sun come up in such breathtaking surroundings.
good shooting

Scotland, roe deer stalking in the winter as the bracken makes it impossible in the summer.
The terrain is difficult the deer are elusive the shots are long.Getting the deer back to the cabin can be extremly challenging.
I use my Sauer 202 in 7x64.

Mark

My favourite stalking is in broadleaf woods in late winter - January - February. The growth is gone, you can see much further.

Species, would be fallow, usually a cull of prickets.

Rifle would be my Sauer 202 in 270win, that's the only one I have.

Just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean they are not out to get you....

Woodland glades with small hilly fields looking for early season Roe bucks, or looking for August Fallow prickets on a sunny evening.

I've often just sat and watched them cos I don't fancy the hassel of Gralloching so late in the evening!!

Where would have to be Suffolk for the Roe and Sussex for the Fallow.

As for the toy of choice... I'd say that I seem to always reach for the Sauer 202 in 308win these days, almost exclusively. It plain simple get's the job done.

Winter woodland stalking for Sika and Roe, in the Highlands. Beautiful scenery and no midges!
Rifle will be a 6.5 X 55 SE CZ, 243 BRNO or a 222 CZ, all depends on what I am after.

For me it has to be roe does on a clear sky, frosty ground morning, with the birds singing and the trees swaying gently.
In sussex with the dog at my side and my PRS 6.5 swede.
Roll on the winter!!!

Memories of old, but has to be;

Roe doe cull,

on open moorland above large commercial forestry after about 10 days of snow cover, when the whole hill seems alive with deer (wearing snow cam, you seem almost invisible, just keep shooting and stalking),

Rifle has to be my trusty 243 (but would now like to try my 7-08 for lightness!!)

cheers
