hi all

the invitation for this years moose hunt just came in the door.
My very good friends in finland has been kind enough to include me on their guest list again this year.
So the days in finland will include a day of partrigde shooting( clap ) and 2 days of driven moose hunting with dog, now it is going to be early in the season and i suspect it will be warm, but i dont know.
Also shooting angles on the moose ? anyone got any pictures or drawings of the moose's soft points ?

i realized last week, that i did not have a decent moose gun, and i had to think fast, all my work time is put into our C-B class double rifles at the moment so no chance there (i think it would not be entirely fair to bring clients halffinished guns to my private hunting adventures) so i had to look long and hard at the parts i had in store, and i am fitting a barrel set (450/400 3") to an old german action i had at hand, so we will see, if i can make it in time.

so moose advice please....

best

peter

Ha,Dahlgren beat me to it !
Yes Peter, the boilerroom does seem to be sited a bit lower than you would imagine.
Now if 1,I get lucky enough to see one in October and 2, if it it will just hold still like the one in Jaktskolan.I can put one in its boilerroom every time !
I have to confess that the bull I saw last year flabbergasted me.When you are used to Sika weighing maybe 60kg,600kgs of bullmoose is well,a bit of a change ! Master of the understatement!
Full report on your return please.Knaek og braek!

Peter,

congrats on the upcoming moose hunt, all I have to say is watch the angle of the moose closely,

smaller cals or soft bullets will not make it through the elbow joint and shoulderblade,

if at broadside, a shot behind the shoulder is great and will make the moose topple over, however if you want it right there or close by, get one ot both shoulders, if you can choose I would go for taking out the offside shoulder.

Frontal shots should be avoided or as a last call at short range, slightly quartering away is a great shot and as always aim for the off side leg and you will do good.

last, listen to the shot director, make sure that you are clear on what is to be shot and not.

Best regards Chris
