Dear Henrik! Mine doesnt like my ideas either... Theres an advantage in having more guns: she hardly notices if there is a new one. But I have to take care of my son: he knows too much! ;-) Hermann

Wrong cartridge for such experiments. Use the 8x65 RS, it's excellently suited (and Eldeguello might add the 8x60 RS in its old pre-war "Magnum Bombe" loads). C.

Hello Gentlemen, I'm getting a new double rifle in 8x57IRS and I'm wondering about safe pressures in this gun. A lot of the modern double rifles are chambered in 30-06 and 30R Blaser, these are chamberings that generate around 3500 Bar. 8x57IRS generates 2900 Bar in its factoryloadings. My point here is that the gun itself will handle higher levels of pressure. I'm not sure if there is any difference in the brass for 8x57IRS versus 8x57IS apart from the rim. Would it be safe to load 8x57IRS to the pressurelevels of 8x57IS ? This means around 3300 Bar. Does any of you gents have any experience on this matter? Best regards Henrik

Hehehe, leaves room at the top end for a .470, .550 or .577! :-) And for Mountain hunting all around the world you NEED a single shot of easy weight in 6.5x65R or 264 Rimmed Win Super duper magnum... ( 7 mm Rem would also do ) Hermann

Dear Hermann, please don't give me any new ideas!!! I had figured out that a single shot in 5.6x50R and 7x65R and doubles in 8x57IRS and 450/400 3" would make a pretty good battery and then you came with more and vicious ideas. I doubt if my wife will ever forgive you. Best Regards Henrik

Henrik I think you choice of rifles is very good.... However i see the 8x57 and the 7x65 as being essentially in the same power class. much better for a double rifle I think would be a 9,3x74R. I have been using one for about 6 years. I have taken several deer and wild pigs, bobcat, coyote, 2 black bears and 17 head of plains game in Africa. It has become one of my favorite hunting rifles. Take a hard look at the 9,3x74R. I also have a 450/400 3 1/4" double rifle that has taken deer wild pigs, 2 caribou and one black bear. It too is an excellent hunting calibre.

Hello Gentlemen, my wife sometimes likes to acompany me out in the hunting woods with her own gun. This is both good and bad news, the bad news is that I have some problems if I try to sneak any new guns into my safe. But all in all I consider myself lucky. I have a lot of experience with both 9.3x74R and 9.3x62 which of course is very similar. What I don't have is any experience with 8x57 IRS This is obviously a serious flaw in my personality and must be cured!!! A part from this, 8x57 is very well suited to our European big game like moose, deer and boars. It's pretty much in the same class as a 30-06 which is considered a decent all around cartridge by some people. The reasoning behind this double is that I want a light and nimble little gun with a quick follow up shot if the need should arise. I have tried such a gun in 9.3x74R and the recoil made the second shot pretty slow. In order to keep the sight on the target less muzzle movement is desireable. Another way is to add a pound to the gun but I've been there and done that. Best Regards Henrik
