I have AR members arriving in England for Roe in late July and into August. It's a great time to hunt as it's the rut.

With kind regards
Mike

I will be guiding here in Slovenia and hunt myself in Croatia - rut time is hard to beat.

Tho the season starts soon I don't shoot bucks as long as they are in their winter - grey coat - speaking for myself only - I have no problem in other people doing it...summer orange/red on green is just nilly for me.

.

Starting to see them all shed their velvet and pleased to say we have some really good (old) bucks on the ground now.

May 1st not so far away but like Mouse, I do like to see them in their red coats!

Have taken a few good (read old) bucks off this year. Rut came and went in mid / late July and we will concentrate on doe and kid numbers late autumn and early winter. Good season so far!

Back in the Cotswolds, England, for a week in the Roe rut. Last evening walking across the field where I first drove a tractor, sixty years ago, with my friend who I have hunted with since then. In front of the high seat we were heading for was a buck chasing a doe in circles. We watched them until the doe went into the wood leaving the buck between us and the seat. He was looking at us and we didn't want to shoot him. A beautiful buck, long wide antlers, strong points but no more than 3 years old. In the end we just walked past him and he stood and watched us climb up into the seat. Then he walked up to have a close look at us before going into the wood 15m away. We hope to see him again next year but if he stands in the middle of an open field while 2 old men with rifles walk past him 40m away he won't last that long if he goes onto the neighbour's farm!
Saw 7 Roe and 3 Muntjac and my mate shot a fox. In the rut you see the strangest scenes. I'm no longer bothered if I shoot anything or not but I love calling bucks.
