Martin,

how can you break the front stock when switching barrels. You have to take off the front stock to get to the lugs to undo the barrel....I have a Sauer 200 with a wooden stock, and I don't really see how you can manage to damage the stock by taking it off or putting it on.

The only Sauer 202 synthetic that I have seen had a Iafalon/teflon finish, rather than blue. I don't know about the 202, but the SHR970 has a bad reputation, because the Iafalon finish peels off.

I have a Sauer 202 Extreme in .243 and chose it over the Outback because I didn't think the difference between the two warranted an extra L300+. I am 6 feet with long arms and the 202 feels OK to me but I daresay you can buy stock spacers to add length. I have used the rifle for the past 18 months and can only sing its praises. It is extremely accurate with a variety of powders and bullets and the Ilafon finish is proving to be very hard wearing - showing no signs of damage or corrosion. All in all an excellent choice particularly for use in wet/winter weather.

The only thing to bear in mind is choice of calibre if intending to acquire other barrels ie 243 and 308 have a 3 lug bolt whereas the other calibres have six lugs and therefore require an extra bolt as well.

Regards,

Sparrow

A friend of mine is looking for a good quality European rifle in ss/synthetic.

He is not keen on the Sako or Blazer but quite likes the Sauer 202...The only thing that concerns him is that the stock seems a little short for him.

Does anybody know if the stock is available in different lengths or if its feasible to fit a spacer?

Regards,

Pete

Sorry, no knowledge about this, but I know that the front stock can be weak and can be broken if you are not careful when switching the barrel. Still I have friends who are very pleased with their Sauer 202.

Have your friend taken a look on the new Mauser 03? If he wants a switch-barrel system it is an interesting option:

Sorry, the usual fate for someone asking questions on AR, you get an anwser to a question you did not ask..

Martin,

I don't think he is bothered about the switch barrel concept one way or the other, what he is looking for is a SS/synthetic good quality European rifle. He has a Styer Mannlicher Full stock at present but he is looking for something a bit more weatherproof and something that fits him a bit better...

I might suggest her looks at the Steyr Prohunter as it has the adjustable stock he is looking for. Having said that I think the Prohunter stock looks like a canoe paddle, but I can't say too much as I own a Ruger M77 AllWeather!

Regards,

Pete
