Good Evening:

I am writing from Alberta, Canada. I am very interested in going on a wild boar hunt to Europe. I am looking for recommendations from others.

I’ve looked at some ads on the www and am curious about pricing. Does the hunt include accommodation?

Are there trophy fees?

Any hidden costs?

Can I bring my own rifle?

My only caveat is I do not want to go to any country that supports the Russian state, ie Hungary, Serbia, etc.

Your input would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,

Max

No politician who supports gun control should recieve armed protection paid for by those he is trying to disarm.

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways-scotch in one hand-Chocolate in the other-body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WHOO-HOO, WHAT A RIDE!!"

Adding to my original post, I was hoping for a three to five day hunt.

Do you have recommendations for places to hunt in-country and can you give me an idea of cost.

Thank you,

Max

A good friend of mine Leif Jonas is my booking agent here in Europe. He lives in Austria, and I hunted blackgrouse on one of his areas a couple of weeks ago. I am hunting roe deer in Hungary and chamois in Slovenia with him later this year.

Caracal from these pages Dennis is an agent here in Germany for hunts all over the world.

K and K Premium Jagd is another agent here in Germany, Wally Kuipers is my agent there. I have not hunted with them yet, I am doing drive hunts with them later this year. They have trips all over Europe. They have a big estate in France that would be good, as I think the boars are on a fixed price. Stags are on a sliding scale, but it is in a castle estate. Pretty cool.

Kahle Jagdriesen is probably the biggest agency in Germany, they have trips all over Europe.

You also need a taxidermist that is experienced in getting trophies out of Europe.

He has hunts in a lot of European Countries.

Are there trophy fees? Probably, that is how things operate.

Any hidden costs? Not generally, everything is posted. In Eastern Europe it is common to be charged mileage.

Can I bring my own rifle? Yes, but it will not be easier.

Wildboar very in size all over Europe. Boars in the mountains are generally smaller, and they are smaller in body size in Spain/Portugal than they are in mainland Europe.

State supports Russia? There are lot of options on that.

There are both high fence and no fence hunts in Europe.

If you are just taking the teeth to put them on a sheild, it probably doesn't matter where you hunt. If you want a shoulder mount, you will need to take that into consideration. Because of swine diseases in Europe, you will want a European taxidermist.

Hello
Im outfitter from Bulgaria and I may offer you wild boar hunting here.
Expected trophy size on body - 70-200 kg, on tusks - 20-27 cm.

Not problem to travel with your own rifle from Canada to Bulgaria, is allowed to import it.

All hunting areas have very nice accommodation (hunting lodges or hotels), with individual bath rooms, wifi, tv and etc.

Depending of the season , wild boar hunt can be combined with more hunting games as capercaillie, roe deer, fallow deer, red deer, chamois, wolf, jackals, mouflon.

For more details , contact me and I will help you.
Thanks

.

Max hi,

If you want to shoot big pigs then Turkey, but its shooting at night with thermal scopes etc. But big pigs with big tusks and pretty much guaranteed.

If you want to hunt wild boar then Bulgaria and Rumania would be at the top of my list but be selective and more than 5 days.

Poland, Czech and Hungary all offer European wild boar but average sizes and tusks.

My 2 cents

Besides trophy expectations it has to be mentioned the ways that Boars are hunted here in EU - JFYK.

Single hunts

1. High seat hunting at the feeder and (or) at passages. Usually, the boars that are coming to the feeder are well known, on passages are random. Hunts are taking place in the late afternoons into the night and can last as long as you are able to sit it out (whole night is doable – however during winter months nights are bloody long...luckily usually pigs come earlier). For piglets and yearlings is all year round same for trophy tusker – however for tusker (in my parts) best time is late February early March, but you can get it later as well. Sows are protected from March till July in parts around here – depends on a country.

2. Stalking – usually during the night, or in good areas also during the day (spring-summer months), when nights are shorter and in the spring when grass is growing, they like to graze into the day – after rain time is also prime…Moonlighted nights are hard to beat scenery like however dead dark night with thermal optics is usually more productive.

3. Hunting with good “Boar-dog” – there are parts and dogs where/with those hunts are doable – you start with a dog guide and his dog that is let loose and it sooner or later finds a boar – many times a tusker – dog is equipped with GPS tracker and once the boar is stationary you approach and shoot it – can be physically demanding.

Driven hunts

It can be done either free range or high fenced. If free range your expectations should be adjusted – many come, some shoot.
High fenced – much better opportunity wise – also some high fenced areas are so huge that you won’t notice the fence – only when entering and exiting – it will cost more tho.

BUT- If you are coming alone you will have to join a group of not known hunters (sometimes locals) – those scenarios on occasions don’t play out as expected…be prepared.

Just some thoughts…

What Mouse93 said plus,
Are you after a large trophy boar, just a good experience or both?
Don't forget Spain or Portugal.
I have done driven hunts with the locals, shot opportunity minimal, great time, met interesting people and food was great!
Expensive driven hunt, more shooting, people stuffy, food average and no party at the end.
Romania and Turkey have the largest free range wild boar generally.
Most big male boar are shot at night under full moon or with thermal.

Good info above.

Some of the destinations in Europe (for example Romania, Belarus) have been severely affected by African swine fever.
If you want a big bodied boar with good tusks your best bet in Europe is turkey, but it's mostly night hunting there.

Feel free to message me if I can assist you.

Thing is Caracal, night hunting is 90% of big boar hunting and rest is driven hunts
I think night hunting for individual big boar is the most exciting hunt
Driven hunt is different strokes for different folks shooting running game more or less indiscriminately but it excites plenty of folks
Daylight individual hunts for big boars are rare occurrence and success is very very rare unless you have a good and I mean good dog, but also those dogs don’t always live long if they are used for that particular purpose
No criticism here though, just my personal outlook
Turkey is definitely an awesome hunt with big bears in a mix
The only thing I almost cried about in Turkey is leaving all the meat( sausage ) in the woods for those big brown bears…damn shame…

There are parts of turkey (and further east in Tajikistan) where you can hunt boars during the day with a decent successrate.

You are right about the meat.
