A friend is planning a trip to Spain early next year . His issue is an airline that will accommodate his rifle travelling from Australia . He was planning British Airways from Melbourne to London . Which airline is the best for transporting rifles from London to Spain ?

I have used Emirates to travel from Portugal to New Zealand and back, with rifles, via Melbourne and via Sidney with no problems.
I don't know if they have any flights from Australia to Spain but I suppose they have. If not your friend can always go through Lisbon instead of London.

I'd have thought BA would be the obvious choice...... If nothing else, it'd mean no inter airline handover.

Just remember that if you are not able to check them all the way through or have a layover you will need a UK visitors permit.

It's easy to do but without it guns can turn into a big pain.

I just got back from Spain with a team and BA was fine. Allow plenty of time on the Spanish end when leaving as the handling took a while.

Incidentally BA are revising their firearms handling policies next year.

I don't know what they will result in terms of the PITA effect!!

Traveling through Germany isn't an issue, customs can hold a gun for you, or could in 2010.

I doubt that customs would provide storage these days for firearms.

As is often the case it will to a page extent depend on who thou happen to speak to on the day.
