Looks like they will be out in October from what I hear.

They seem to have managed to get the rangefinding bits in without making the unit too bulky.

Got no price on them yet but I'm sure they won't be cheap!!

Kiri, they are going to be well over two grand.

Take my route, poke out your left eye with a stick and get the 8x30 LRF's for about £600.....;-)

Just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean they are not out to get you....

You should be able to offset them through the Company accounts and at least get the tax back..

I have the Leica's and love them and I am sure the Swaro's will be even better as technology marches ever on...

You can only get the tax back if you pay for the binos in the first place!!

Believe me I have given it some thought but I think these are out of my league.

Coupled with the fact that I have been offered a couple of pairs of 8.5x42EL's cheap, I'm struggling more than I normally would...

Could I just point out that you just have the one pair of eyes. So that should halve the decisions for you Wink

Sika,
Yes indeed you are correct. The two binos have come from Swaro and are Cat1 and Cat2 used. My choice is which of the two do I prefer....

I should imagine I'll still be using my 8x50 Bausch & Lombs this time next year as they work great!!

Simple answer to the integrated Rangefinder question. £2,000 goes a long way towards a safari.

Use google earth and get a good idea of the key measurements on your ground ie the length of fields etc. And get a very clear idea of what an in range (ie within 150 yds) fox, roebuck, fallow etc looks like through bins and then in proportion to the reticle. And if you have a reasonably flat shhoting rifle, zeroed 1" high at 100 yds, just put cross hair behind shoulder and squeeze. I work on the basis if it looks too far it probaly is.

Just saved you £2,000.

Counterbalanced by he who has most toys when dies wins!

Alternatively just do as I have done, buy a 64 yr old yacht in good condition. Suddenly cost of stalking pales into insignificance!

You could just as well put all your money in a pile in the garden and set light to it.

The only thing worse than old boats is old houses...

Let's see - you shoot really well with a gun for ages, then one day you don't.

The gun has not changed so what is the problem?

Keep the gun, just get someone else to shoot it for you Smiler

Who needs range finders anyway - why not just guess like people used to?

Welcome to the wondeful world of trap shooting boys

K

Never look at the scores

you did the right thing

Coming back to the range finder bino

Do you think this will increase the cull figure at the end of the year if you have one ?

The cost of it and the weight makes me leave it at home.

I think I will be selling mine soon if you are interested

Any more info? Interesting to know if they will be on the SLC-HD or EL Swarovision platform or something new altogether. Lets just hope they are not just x42 or x56 like some others... an HD 10x50 would be good but would compete with the new EL 10x50.

I believe they are based on the EL's with Power bulges below the tubes.

Dont know what they will be like but they are about 8 years behind the drag curve compared to Leicas and 3 compared to Zeiss.

That kind of lag in field proven use will be difficult to catch up on.

Don't see the need. If you're on ground you are familiar with it should be a simple matter of working out a mental range card. In the old days you would pace it/look on the map now most have a cheap laser finder (eg leica lrf 400/bushnell etc)

If you're on unfamiliar territory that means someone else's ground? Do you really want to shoot over 250yards on someone else's ground with attendant increased risk of wounding/missing - not for me I don't.

Love good optics don't like heavy and bulky binos. Get a cheap rangefinder, stick it in your roesac and be done.
