At the SCI Convention I was successfull bidder on a 5 day hunt in Italy and wanting to make the most of the experience I'm looking for some advice on the hunt. Primarily seasons and conditions to expect.
A rifle and Ammo are provided. While I like to use my own firearms I'm prepared to use theirs for the sake of convenience.
Being a preserve hunt, sometimes from blinds, this will certainly be a different experience to any I've had while hunting in Australia.
I will add a fortnight onto the end of the hunt and do some sight seeing around Italy. I would like to see some of the gunmakers...........and of course the rest of the country and the historic sites.
I thought that I might include in the hunt Mouflon, Roe Deer and possibly a European Wild Boar.
I'd like any firsthand information/advice I can get.

Two Bob,

I think you can get tours of the Berretta factory if you can book in advance, but you can definately go and visit the Perazzi factory. A couple of friends have been when orderign guns and my cousin was there last week. Apparently it is an excellent day out.

I would think you can find contact details details on the website.

Where in Italy will you be hunting and are you flying direct? If you are stopping in London it might be worth avisit to some of the london gunmakers.

Rgds,

Hello Two Bob,
Italy is 1500Km lond, so it's necessaty to know where you'll hunt. Probably in middle Italy. In this country you'll find some of the best dimonstration of italian art. Firenze, Siena ecc are really woonderfull!!!!! But need to say this country is veeery expensive.
If you like to see some factorys, you need to go in Gardone Val Trompia where you'll find 90% of the italian gun brands. If you want to know one of the best gunsmith I can organize a visit to Flavio Farè who's my friend.
Let me know when and where you'll hunt, we can arrange somethink nice for you.

please, excuse my curiosity, can you be more descriptive about this hunting offer at the SCI Convention? Was it a proposal, an offer, or what? Who organized proposed it?

thank you, El 12 (in veneto mi raccomando), sono ancora indeciso sull'EXA, espone un individuo per me spregevole, e continuo a non avere tanta voglia di vederlo. Mi fa gia` un po' schifo vederlo osannato sulle riviste .............

Ian F: the hunts are described as being close to Todi, Orvieto and Assisi. I know that is of little assistence. I'll chase more info soon.
Hunting is described as stalking or from blinds on hunting preserve.

Fallow Buck:
See note above about hunting areas. I haven't decided on flight plan yet. I'd love to go and see H&H in London, Purdey etc. It's all just time and money. As I won't be carrying my own rifle with me Heathrow shouldn't be a concern.

I'll look up the Beretta and Perazzi websites.

Faina:
I figured that Gardone and Brescia would be good places to start when looking at factories. Thank you for your kind offer of the visit with Flavio. I would certainly look forward to that. Haven't decided on dates. Mouflon apparently rut in October but the Roe deer apparently finish in September (according to outfitters hunt info).

El Dodexe:
Thank you for the kind offer of accommodation deal. I'll let you know when I have dates/destinations information.

Steve Malinverni: The hunt was donated by Huntineurope.com. What I purchased was a 5 day hunt (excludes trophy fees) including pickup Rome, accommodation & meals for two, hunting license, rifle and ammo, "assistance of local game keeper", trophy preparation. 18% tax to be paid on total invoice cost of hunt.

Thank you all for your input. I know little of Italy, except for it's proliferation of fine food, wine, firearms and sportscars so all information is greatly appreciated.

Mario,

It seems that you are correct. I've checked up on the paperwork that I have on this hunt and it does contain reference to International Safaris Corporation, Serio, Srdja Dimitrjevic.

I'll check on exchange rates and see how the fees/costs compare. It seems I have more homework before I take this further.

I never been in Agricontri. I know is a fenced preserve, about 300 hectares or smaller. In my opinion not the right place for Red stag hunting but good for wild boar, fallow or mouflon. I dont know if they have roe deer. In case you can kill one.
I think you will have a great experience: Todi and surrounding areas and all the region called Umbria is one of the most beautiful of our italian peninsula.

mario,

Thanks for your comments. I'd primarily be interested in Mouflon and Roe Deer. I think New Zealand's Red and Fallow deer are alot closer to home and alot more affordable. However if I saw a "thumper" of a European Wild Boar I'd be sorely tempted.

Pleased to hear that the hunt is in a pretty part of the country as the site seeing will be an important part of the trip.

I think agrincontri have true wildboars, pure Italian blood, rare to found, a little small( in the 80kg class a adult male)but not the ibridized ones you found normally in Italy. Can make a nice shoulder mount anyway.
Abouth this you have to be clear, at the noise point, for the first preperation of your trophy, if not the true risk in Italy is that your only option is a europen mount and a tusk mount for wildboar.
Or maybe a neck mount instead a shoulder.
And, if you like have the taxidermy done in Italy, check the taxidermyst work before...

I know well Agrincontri.
Very nice place, good accomodation and very good guys.
In the fences you'll find NO Roe deer.

There's big mouflons, and if you're VERY lucky you'll find a big Wild boar, the biggest are very smart, so it's very very difficult to see and hunt also in the fence.

Ciao
