I recently read the C. Boddington article about hunting these. Not sure if this is the right place to ask about them, but I am interested in the Greenland version of this hunt and thats part of Europe(?).

So anyone have any info about these hunts. Outfitters, references, pictures, etc. As with any hunt long term planning is part of it and I'm looking at this for 2013 or later since I have other hunts planned/booked for 2011 and 2012.

Thanks,
Willi

Contact Bjorn at the Icelandic Hunt Club and he can help you. The hunts are around $11,000 w/Caribou. Feel free to contact me too. My info is in my profile. Enjoy

The hunt below is arranged by native Greenland outfitters. The website is in German only, but you can contact Roger Joos (who books these hunts in Europe) by mail - he speaks a very passable English. Roger is actually a member here on AR, but I forget his AR "pen name"? (Maybe he will chime in and enlighten us?). There are a ton of pictures on the website, and maybe you can decipher some of the German text...

The outfitters have offered this hunt for umpteen (ten or more?) years. I went on this hunt some years back, and it was quite the adventure with the dogsleds and all. I hunted in March, and it was colder than anything, but the seal skin clothing the outfitter rents kept us toasty warm. You did not stay for long in the outhouse, though... Since I attended, the outfitters have built a couple of cabins, and life in camp got a lot easier (we slept in insulated tents).

The population of muskox in this area is nothing less than astonishing. I think pretty much anybody who can shoot decently can take two muskox, should he so desire. Try to arrange to get to hunt with the outfitter, Mathias, I think he is the best guide, at least he was when I hunted. Btw, big calibers work better for these animals than small ones. I shot a .375 H&H and it is about ideal.

I heartedly second Mike. I actually just got back from hunting with Mathias in Greenland last week (and yes, it was cold!... but the seal-skin suits are fine, and quite the fashion statement).

I have not done the report yet, but will try to do it this weekend.

Its well worth the cold to hunt in March in my opinion, as I have spoken with others who did the summer/fall boat hunt, and they were kinda disappointed. They're just not in there element unless its snow and -30CSmiler

Cheers
Dugong
