My question is, is it alowed to carry knives in the public in italy, folder or fixed blades, or must I let is at home. What says the law. Thanks, Martin

Lorenzo, thanks for info and sorry for my mistake with the "I". I hope, you forgive me. I´m yet happy, if I wrote anything in Enlish, that I haven´t so many mistakes. And by the way, it´s not importent for me if you write "germany" or "Germany", it´s better you write "Bavaria". Germany is the no needed appendix of Bavaria. Martin

In our country you can carry o take in the car a knive only if you have a justified cause. So if you go for mushrooms in the forest you cna carry the knive. If you go for a picnic you can carry the knive for cut salami and cheese. Abosolutely you cannot carry the knive if you go in a shop, in a bar ect. mario

Since it is very difficult for a foreigner tourist to justify the possession of a knife, since he is not supposed to go mushrooming, or meet the other (very few) valid reasons to possess a knife for our law, it is much better for him to let the knife at home..... - Lorenzo

It's a fairly common practice to carry a small folding knife here in the States. Especially true with working and farm people. Most parts or areas in our country do limit the size of the knife. I do agree that a knife in a bar or were drinking is involved is seldom a good thing. If you can't smell his breath, your're not close enough!
