Thanks to all for the responses. I have a "thing" for the 6.5x55 caliber. And to see it wrapped in a 93 Luxus actually stopped me in my tracks..........just beautiful. I learned a long time ago not to dismiss opinions out of hand even if they didn't match mine. But I still have the utmost confidence in the R93....................................JJ

I'm familiar with this information. I know of two blasers with steel recivers, one is owned by montero a member of this forum and a second bellongs to friend of mine.

Each to his own, it would be sad if everyone had the same opinion

Cheers

The R93 is a really great rifle. Yes there are those who dislike the Blaser, those who call it unsafe, those who call it unorthodox. In it's heart and soul it is an innovative hunting rifle, that shoots and usually outshoots some of the best custom rifles today. I have used an R93 all over the world, I trust the gun and the action implicitly. The take down feature is an added bonus too. While not the answer to every hunting situation the Blaser will bo fine on any game, enviromental condition, that you can think of.

Problems? Almost every problem that you can find in the book. Accuracy, feeding/magazine, large camber who made reloading cases almost impossible. The rifle also felt tacky and I never liked the IKEA concept

The only blaser product seems to be resonable is the k-95 kiplauf with steel action and it's almost identical to the Merkel/Simson version

Hey Johan, you were remarkably low-key in your reply. Good on you! Anyway, I know you have been looking for these animals before

I'm sorry to say they don't exist. All K95s - as well as their predecessor K77s - have aluminium actions, with a steel tilting block ("jaeger") lock. Strongest lock-up available for a break-top gun. That design is not actually proprietary to Blaser, which is why Merkel could carbon-copy the K77. Supposedly the Merkels are nice too - I never actually handled one.

I will get you for low-key I still belive that blaser r-93 is a overcomplicated overengineered crap toy

You have not done the homework properly Blaser offers the k-95 with steel action in exlusive and higher grades.

The Merkel K-2 is made with steel action and octagonal barrel. A great looking rifle

Johan, I respect your opinions, knowledge and enthusiam, even if we don't share my preference for the R93. However, on this particular issue:

I think I'll stand my ground. Here is what Blaser has to say about steel actioned K95s:

Quote:

The K95 systems are all made from aluminium, the tilting locking mechanism is steel.
The steel system is not in our program but at a cost, almost anything is possible!
I know there have been a couple made in the past that were special orders (high grades)
Best regards

I guess on the basis of the last statement, you can claim you were right - they do exist. Anyway, there it is, straight from the horse's mouth...
