I recently heard that the EU is enacting a lead ban which will extend to bullets. I believe that Sweden has a ban on lead cartridges which will begin in 2008. My fellow smallbore riflery competitors are very concerned. I don't know any details-Sweden in particular has a lot of shooters. Anybody know anything? Sorry if this has been covered before. If true it would be yet another good reason for the UK to leave the EU.

This would not suprise me at all and make a have a huge impact on stalking if it comes about...Why? I am not sure forestry company's are going to like chunks of copper embedded in their trees to ruin their expensive equipment...

But sofar we manage with them, hunting is old and have strong heritage here.Like the moosehunt, the population must be kept under control, its no question of that.

I think this is the first time I can tell Im glad that Russia is our neighbour in east.Knowing this,Finland have always been well armed, and will be.

They could improve the health of the people a lot more by banning cigarettes.

It was quite impressive that the Finnish army killed 250,000 Russians and wounded another 250,000 in only 105 days of fighting with no help from any other nation in men or materials.

And If I am not mistaken the Finnish Army numbered around 40,000 if not a little less, than that. The Soviets complained that after the War, they got 10% of Finland, just enough to bury the dead, the Finns with guns kept 90% of their country when everybody else in Europe lost theirs to either the Germans or the Soviets. Its the Same crap here a lot of Rifle and Skeet ranges have and have had a lot of problems with so called lead polution. We use steel shot for waterfowel, and Bismuth, allowed us shoot ducks with our fine shotguns. Most of the lead crap here is about Real estate some of the old clubs and ranges sit on very valuable property. Just follow the money, if you really want to know what he motives are.

Yeah let's go ban some..... How about banning fat burgers.. No let's go all the way..! Let us ban fat food. Any food containing more than 10% fat is hereby banned.
While we are at it.. How about a car ban! Let's say more than 10 miles a day should be illegal.
Banning is good isn't?

Johan, my apologies for being ignorant of the Swedish contribution. I particularly like the stories of the Finns shelling Russian troops that tried to cross frozen lakes, but sank when the artillery shells landed.

The Winter War

This is off topic of course, but if you are interested this film is certainly worth watching. They had a lack of snow making the film, but the veterans say it is accurate, because the Russian artillery made a mess of the white snow. In the final sequence the Russian fired away everything they had, because the armistace had come! My grandfather did not experience it, because he fell three days before.

If you are interested in our days of glory, when the Finnish nation was truly forged, you can follow the war day by day in finnish, swedish or english on the home page of the Armed forces. Day by day

And don't forget the Norwegains who sacrificed their lives to keep out the Russians! But then since Norway has been Swedish, and Finland has been Swedish according to Johan, I guess we're all connected.

If you ask me, all the scandinavian countrys should be united. Perhaps under the Danish crown prince and his lovely Mary Donaldson! (which would undoubtably be much better than our weak, looser crown prince Haakon and his "porn-princess" Mette Marit... ) Thus we would actually be a self sufficient "mini superpower" combining our industry, oil, gas, forestry, fishing and food production.

This would of course mean that most of our politicians would loose much of their selfserving, egocentric power, so I guess it'll never happen...

Those locations are fine by me! If it was put in Oslo, we'd just screw things up!

You'd be suprised how many Norwegians think the same as I do when it comes to uniting the scandinavian countrys. I know of many. The problem is that few dare to express their views openly in our nationalistic, socialist country... That such a union would benefit us when the oil runs out is simply ignored.

In the discussion about Finland, Sweden and war, dont forget that during the Thirty Years War in the 17th century, the swedish elite troops were finnish: the Hakkapelits. They were used for the hardest tasks, which they mostly fulfilled successfully.

Without the finnish endurance against the Soviet during the Winter War, we would have had to have the Soviet as neighbour or would have had to fight against it - or have had to be a parts of it. We owe them a great gratitude!

I don't think the EU has anything to do with a lead ban, but some European countrys are trying to create a "better" world by banning lead ammo. In Holland it started some 8 years ago when lead shotshells were forbidden for all hunting purposes. At the end of 2004 it will be illegal to use (or possess) lead shotshells for any shooting including clayshooting.
I hope they won't take a next step, in banning lead hunting bullets, but I'm not very pleased with the example set by the Swedish governement.
