Recently I received a call from my cousin stating that she had bought a Charity Shooting day at Bisley, but couldn't make it for the following day. Did i have a team of four guns that would like to go out and play free of charge? Breakfast clays and lunch all included. Well All I can say id how cr@ap are my mates!! Well actually not, just Mr F that couldn't make it.... The others dropped what they had on at an instant and got their old muskets out for presentation. Breakfast was great with lots of coffee cakes and bacon rolls!! In fact there were more platters of bacon rolls floating about than clays... so I did my best to redress the balance!! Four of us went out with a tenner in the kitty ffor winner takes all... Oh the competition was fierce!! Well sort of inbetween the jokes and ribb-tickling Janek went sraight off straighting the first four stands leaving me lagging by some 3 clays straight off. Then the pool shoot came around. I have to say that next time Janek sees a pool shoot he should hand the guy the money and go home, cos it ain't worth wasting the cartridges mate!!! You get the picture!! Half way round I had 4 clays to catch up on Janek and dig was ahead of me by one, even though he was using a 150year old hammer gun!! It was time for the flush. Heads down we managed to kill 41/50 even with Dig's old musket and my blind loader!! So we got back to the competition... Modesty precludes me from saying how my last 8 stands went but I did manage to make up the 4 clays I was behind Janek and 4 more on top!! This was the result: Seriously, another great days shooting with good freinds that went out of their way to help a valid cause at the last minute. I suppose that is what it is all about. I have some more photos coming next week and I'll post them when I get them. Given we didn't pay for the day we each donated a days shooting or stalking to the Auction at the end. Those days that cost us nothing raised another £1,000 for the trust and over all, the day raised close to £50,000 for teenagers with various cancers. A real success and great PR for the shooting community overall. Rgds, FB

FB Sounds like I missed out on a really great day! Many thanks for the thought and the invite. I was upset to have to cry off - claiming prior appointments. The 'truth' is somewhat more embarrassing! I was scared that my meagre abilities with a shotgun would prove a threat to you - possibly resulting in your complete collapse and inability to hit the most simple targets!! Thus, with your self confidence and welfare in mind, I had to decline your kind invitation. Seriously bud - a great day and wish I could have come out to play. rgds IanF Just taking my rifle for a walk!........

Hey Arild, It looks like we may be out there at the same time!! At the moment we are not sure if we will be in Nespruit area or Limpopo. It will depend on the both the availability of pig shaped critters and the wingshooting we are booking. It looks like there are 5-8 of us hunting plus some partners for 8/9 days. 4 days driven guineas, and duck flighting, and 4 days plainsgame/Wartie bashing. When I get our final details put together i'll let you know & perhaps we can ask our respective PH's to arrange a dinner for us one evening. Regards, FB

That should be grat Kiri. We will be hunting with Sportsmans Safaris, Ellisras, outfitter is Clive Perkins. Camp is right on the banks on the Limpopo, some few km downstream from the Stockport border crossing. We´ll keep in touch on this one Arild Iversen.

Sounds exactly the area that I shot my Bushbuck in just up from the crossing. The area is renowned for big bushbuck and Waterbuck. A great place to hunt along the banks of the river. Rgds, FB

I don't see what is hilarious about that picture at all! That £10 puts me down £1 overall in 2007 with Fallow Buck after our partridge bet. Believe me...it is not about the amount of money...it's all about who is paying who! Count experiences, not possessions.
