Richard

Thanks for posting the pics.

My favourite time is Autumn and in fact this is my favourite season of all regardless of the fact that it is the Red and Sika and Fallow rut.

I am off upto Dawyck (Borders) to try for another Sika this year at the end of September so fingers crossed.

I managed this super representation last year and was delighted:-

And during the same week this super animal was taken on Arran (on the BASC scheme) with a couple of South Africans (father and son team) Griff had out. I have been told it is number 2 in the UK (not sure which system was used to score it but Griff might know).

And then a couple of Fallow off our patch down south which I managed to knobble (we don't seem to get heads of any significance but both of these were taken in adrenalin pumped moments):-

The reason I like this time of year the most is the sun starts to lower, the different colours of the landscape, it goes dark at a normal time and it is also the advent of winter when I am at my peak of being busy stalking and with no flies etc.

Thanks

Jon

Very end of April/early May and from September onwards for me. No getting up at ridiculous O'clock, and the ground is open so you can see whats moving.

I know Dawyck and Stobo Castle very well. Happy times! I have a bowl turned from a lump off one of the exotic wind falls out of Dawycks gardens. Smiler

Pity that the FC seem so intent on slaughtering everything insight in their blocks that surround the place. Mad

My favorite week of the year is first week of October. Beautiful weather for red deer, bear and chamois.
Favorite second week of the year is the last week of January .Wild boar drive hunt in the snow is an indescribable feeling. That week is the best chance for wolf hunting, another passion of mine.

For me it has to be the week between xmas & newyear nice crisp frosts or snow. Not many people about.

The stalking is as challanging as it gets bucks and stags are easy but try stalking does and hinds 2 months into the season.

Favourite day to stalk though is xmas eve I always go out and rarely is there ever another soul to be seen on the entire place, over 10,00 ha to wander around without seeing another person all day. Cool

We all know ignore lists get regularly ignored by those that claim to have them. As you don't know what others are saying about you if you don't read their posts. animal

We all know what they say about those that laugh last laughing the longest. Big Grin

Cheers Richard

It is a true privilege for me to hunt in the area I do in the Borders. It actually isn't Stobo/ Dawyck but it is bouncing with Sika.

I saw at least another dozen 8 point mature stags and a couple of really big ones but didn't get the op on them.

Thank you for the assumptive and yes if I do I surely will post.

I am going a little earlier this year than I normally do due to business commitments but actually in this period last year, a gold medal was takem from the same ground by a Dutchman. I am not nessecerily after a medal head but it ofcourse adds to the excitement to know that they are out there - I know you know what I mean.

Best

JB

Wind your neck in Dick Wink

Chit chat as you so call it is all part of the rich and varied life on friendly fora, and AR is a friendly forum. Isn't it?

Readies on the table buy a great many privileges. Wink

I'll be up in Tweedsmuir area bashing a few hinds late this year. A grand bit of the countryside.

Just keeping my powder dry Gintrap. Cool

Wouldn't want to be too specific or you might be able to take advantage.

"Make your mind up! One minute its Dawyck and the next its not. "

I must admit I thought that was quite witty and it did make me chuckle.

Jon

There is plenty of stalking available there for all. But I understand you concern if your getting a decent deal not wanting all and sundry having a look to see if they can get the same. Good luck where ever you finally decide to pitch you tent that week in Sept.

Glad you appreciated the humour in my remark. Its a pity some seem to take things posted all to seriously. It is sometimes difficult to convey subtle humour using just the written word.

I find the over extensive use of emicons as equally annoying as text speak and the incorrect use of punctuation on forums. All smacks of laziness and ignorance. IMO
