I have been dreaming of Greenland a lot lately. We have a big military deal in August canceling my trip with Marianne of Diana.dk to Greenland.

Anyone been to the Icy-Isle lately?

I hope I can find it in 2008s schedule to go. I don't leave this Sicily until November unless I get an early probation.

I am working on my bachelors in Anthropology and Northern Studies. The goal is to be Dr D99 of Anthropology shortly after I retire.

Eskimos, Vikings, and the Sami, are my main focuses of study.

Anyone know of any good books or DVDs I need to have in my library?

Before anyone tries to move this, or tell me that Greenland is in North America, please understand I know where Greenland is.

And allthough Greenland is in North America Geographically I also know that Greenland is self-ruled, but not totally. It's the only North American nation that has a capitol in Europe.

That and the number two reason that I posted here, before the PMs start! Is that Greenland isn't accessable from North America without first flying to Cope or Reyk.

I doubt many folks from North America have been to Greenland anyway. While I know quite a few folks on this forum have.

So there you have it more nonsense to build my post count! And inform the world of the questionless bounty between my ears.

Anyway, talk to me about Greenland I would love to hear all the news. Please!

as always,

Demented D99!

I guess I don't have anything for you here except to share my expiriances from one Alaskan to another.

I was sitting in the Copenhagen airport one tired morning after all night of traveling and and I was a little grogy from my travel. as I sat I saw what is a normal sight for me and there were Eskimos with tradtional kuspuck clothing walking around the airport. Then suddenly it hit me that I wasn't at home and I was in Europe so were did they come from.

Like you said Greenland has close ties with Denmark. A freind of mine hunted muskox there a few years ago and had a good time. They went out on dog sleds and it was a 100% traditional Eskimo hunt. I don't know what other hunt they have but is sure to be an adventure.

Akshooter,

They also hunt them on boats and on quads same as in Alaska same as in the NWT/Nunavut.

Yep that Eskimo thing would screw me up too.

I now recall meeting a lady in Sweden that told me her parents took her to greenland during the summer and fall every year to spend some time living a subsistance life style. I think she told me that they hunted caribou or reindeer.

This is a good thread to mention the Global Warming hoax !! http://newsbusters.org/node/11879 If you are going there in the summer you should spend time looking at Viking settlements otherwise ask some Inuit to take you hunting !

This trip

Here is a plan on a hunting trip from 17.-24.mars

The hunting trip will start at Constable Point airport, whits is near the hunting zone.
Another possibility is to rent a helicopter (15 min) to the village stay there one night and start the hunting from there the day after. That would reduce the cost by 12000 per person.
As we have only 6 days to hunt and there is always some chance of not finding the Musk Ox right away, it might be smarter to start from the airport to make the most of the time.
The hunt will end in the village where we will stay one night and go from there the morning after on the 24. Of mars.

Price is 4.1010.EUR per person
including in that is:
- Flight: Reykjavík - Constable Point - Reykjavík
- 6 days hunting on dogsleds’ 2. Per slate, starting from CNP an ending in Ittoqqortoormiit
- 1 night in two beds rooms, in a border house in the village.
- Dinner in someone’s home after the hunt.
- Hunting license in Greenland + one Musk Ox per hunter.
- Helicopter from Ittoqqortoormit-Constable Point
- Tents, sleeping bags, mattresses, food and all the safety equipment for the hunt.

Solvi,

Ok, howabout 2008?

I can't do anything until late September and my dance card is full for then.

I like it though!

What would it cost to hop down to Stephans place and shoot a couple reindeer at the end of this muskox hunt?

Oh, and how much is another muxkox?

Thanks

Seth
