Sound moderators are not legally compulsory. But some estates and forestry commission areas insist you have one on 'health and safety' grounds so you need to check with your guide or booking agent. Regarding maximum calibre - you may well find that you are limited because our authorities which grant the UK visitor permit have the (sometimes weird) notion that the larger the calibre, the greater is the public safety issue. Muntjac are one of our smaller deer so a large calibre is nor necessary, fallow don't require a huge calibre.
What calibre have you got in mind??

I want to bring 9,3x62. I hunted in Scotland in ´04 with 30-378 wby and there were no problems then ,maybe there are different rules dawn south.

I think that the stalker/guide may look askance at the proposition of 9.3x62 for Muntjac. Not that I would disuade you from such a course of action as the 9.3 is wonderful. However you may want to revise downward slightly... Any of the non magnum 7s or 30 cals would be fine. I once shot a muntjac with a full house .300 win mag load. It was something of an unequal contest. I suspect that the 9.3 would be similar if used with a softish jacketed bullet as if you used premiums they would hardly have noticed they had gone through the deer.

I used to hunt in UK with my 300WM but was asked to use something smaller,
I switch to 308, same bullet and similar speed and it is acceptable, but I use a silencer for the ´308

speed,

With regards this issue, the laws across England and Wales are identical, and those in Scotland are not too different.

Leagally, there is no upper caliber limit, but in practice most Police Forces will have some sort of "policy" they try to enforce, and also how they treat individual applicants often varies so that a new or inexperienced shooter may be "encouraged" to get a .243win or similar, while somebody who has held an FAC for a number of years will usually be cut a bit more slack..I am not saying this approach is entirely logical or fair, but thats how it is for the most part.

The other half of the equation is the Estate or Guide you are hunting with. Most will desire a cleanly shot carcass with a minimum of meat damage. This is both from a financial perspective, and also out of respect for the quarry/carcass.

Large or very fast calibers are often viewed as likely candidates to cause a lot of meat damage, plus there is also a worry that the guest may not be able to shoot them particuarly well.

So, as already has been suggested, something in the 6.5x55mm to 30-06 range is generally seen as ideal..

If you are dead set on bringing your 9.3x62mm, talk to your stalker well ahead of time and see what his reaction is...He will also likely to know how his local FLD would view such an application..

Regards,

Peter

Thank you for the answers. The main reason for me to choose 9,3 is the scope on that rifle (zeiss 2,5-10x50 varipoint) And this in short range hunt (50-150m).
I own 6,5x284 which has zeiss 6,5-24x56 but it is too big scope for this range.

Ps. No a am not switching scopes.

Your minimum power of 6.5 on the other rifle is perfect. The stalker will not want you to be taking off hand shots but to support yourself on a pair of crossed sticks. Nor will he want you to shoot at moving deer.

Neither calibre ammunition available in most UK gunshops.
