The British side should not be a problem. Just have them put "Telescope" on the Customs Declaration.

But I hear that they are in a "Hissy Fit" in America about exporting hardware that could then turn up overseas and be used to kill their soldiers. Which is quite a reasonable point of view.

The only doubts I would have would be about any warranty issues and that you may get chraged UK Import Duty (as you should) so that the cheap deal isn't so cheap after all.

I usually find that sellers on US eBay are OK to ship to UK.

You could always get it shipped to soeone that is in the states who can bring it over for you. I put a scope in my checked baggage last time I was there and brought it back, but I'm not sure if I was supposed to do that.

Alex,

Being in UK you will have no problem importing from the US.
For exporting a rifle scope from the US a special licence is needed or not, depending on the country of destination.
Check on the following link, under Firearms Convention (FC1) and Crime Control (CC1, CC2, CC3):

Alex,
some will post some will not!
If your shipper uses Fedex or UPS you will have customs charges. If they use USPS then it is likely that you will not, there is a downside to using USPS is that insurance and guarranteed delivery are not always available..
www.opticzone.com is owned by an AR member, you might want to try him ..

If you are looking to buy a used scope E-Bay is the way to go, I would stick with Leupold because of their warrenty and customer service rep.Leupold is 100% paranoid about OCONUS shipping, but they will handle an export permit for you at no charge. A new scope on the orther han,I would do a Google search For Leupold scopes and check out any number of large mail order firms. Some will ship to the UK others will not. Go USPS and buy insurance. Good luck.

I have bought several scopes from www.eurooptic.com i USA.

As the name says, they stock mostly European scopes, do export, and run a splendid service.

Alex, I think the conquest scopes are actually made in the US, presuming it is a conquest you are after.

Just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean they are not out to get you....

Not to get in any ones way, but I have done person to person shipping of more than one scope from the US.

The reason for this is that for some reason a Zeiss with a nr 43 reticle is a merchendise of war whilst a nr 1 or 4 is not.

The US retailers have not been willing to ship me the nr 43 reticles.

Europtics are great guys and a nice crew but a bit high in price and they ship, Cameraland NY and Doug are better in price however they will not ship scopes overseas.

The legalities of it all has been stated above, the trouble shooting of it lies in having friends in that big land over there.

Best regards Chris

When the USD was way down, there was good money to save buying European scopes from USA.
At least compared to Norwegian prices.

Today is another story, at least compared to my local currency, and I can get better deals locally then buying from overseas.

And as Chris said, some "military look alike" reticles are no go whatsoever.
