Wow Pete, congrats on your new roe-sack! So is it larger than the ones you get in the UK?? The measurements you cited is almost as large as they come here on the Continent. Has it got outside pockets?? No metal buttons??

IanF, I don't like bipods too much either. In particular, I dislike the fact, that they disrupt the balance of the rifle when you carry it on a sling. They are also noisy, springs going "DOIING" if you are not careful. But I will say this, when I hunted antelope last (MT, USA), I tried to avoid the bipods, wanting to rely on shooting from my pack (as usual) when prone. Alas, in the end I borrowed a bipod, and managed to take my buck at some ridiculous distance with an ultra fast shot (long story, another time). So, as much as I dislike bipods, I grudgingly have to admit there are places where they come in handy.
