slaughter in the Angus Glens

Reports are coming in of yet another mass cull in one of the Angus Glens.
The Deer Commision for Scotland have funnelled 4000 red deer into a killing zone and have currently slaughtered 2200 reds!
This cull is under the pretence of natural habitat protection, but some of us see it as a social agenda, whereby the local estates become unsustainable, and will be sold off to the so called crofters, commonly known as the Blair land grab.
Their actions go against a report from the Macauley institute, but again this is typical of this Government..

Griff,

I've not heard of this cull and you would think after the bad publicity concerning the last one, the DCS would have learned..Is this lastest incident being reported in the Shooting press at all?

Regards,

Pete

Pete,
can't say who I got it from!but let us say it was from a VERY reliable source from within..
I am going to try and contact Alex Hogg from the SGA to confirm.

Cairnlochan is the area, and it is the combination of the deer from 3 estates and the total cull is 6000 and not 4000 as originally posted.

Griff...That´s an amazing number.
How do they handle such a cull, who do the job ( I feel reluctant to call it stalking )?
There must be quite an organisation set up to handle such a number in a restricted area ??

Culling is wery seldom seen in my parts of the woods, and if, it´s mostly because there´s sicness among the animals. I can´t remember the last time i heard about culling here where I live.

Why do they not increase the numbers who can be taken during the ordinary stalking period ?
Or are this mostly fawns and calves ?

Arild,
this is a cull and not stalking! There is no limit on the numbers you can shoot, there is usually a cull target, but here the emphasis is being put on natural habitat protection..
This is being instigated by the likes of SNH (Scottish natural heritage) with the backing of the RSPB.
The Deer Commission for Scotland has been hijacked by these organisations, who have their own political agenda.
I think that they are aiming for a complete breakdown of the estates and their eventual ownership being transferred to these quango's..
