I posted this question in the African and Gunsmithing forums also. But being that this is about a European rifle I know nothing about I am hoping some of the European members can shed some light on this for me. I am looking at purchasing a Mauser that has been made up into a pretty neat rifle. But the action is a "Geco" I havent been able to learn much about them except that they made some very nice German 22 trainers. Any info would be a big help.

Geco was a german gun seller firm in Hamburg (?) and the complete name was Gustav Genschow C:e. They didnt make any guns in own factories but bought, stamped and sold guns from divers factories. They sold both shot guns and rifles. A friend of mine has got a pair of Gecos: one 8x57IS and one 9x57. Nice guns with good metal work but really spartan beechwood stock. They are light: the 8x57IS about 6 lbs. Today Geco is a ammo brand from Nitro Nobel in Germany. Best regards, Fritz

my first gun was a nice single shot 22 lr marked Geco Germany and it had a single sight and was much like todays chipmunk rifles . one ought to coock the hammer after chambering each time before firing for the safty's sake, because you could have a round chambered without risk for accidental firing . it was a nice and accurate gun,but it wasn't possible to put a scope on it due to the action which was opened from above. i sold it to my best school freind which loved it more than me. i allways beleived that Geco was a gun company like anschutz making rifles as there was no other marks on the gun than Geco. regards danny
