Hi Henrik, Ive been following your quest for the choice of caliber for your future K-95. As I have purchased this wonderfull little gun this spring, to use for stalking mainly roebuck, but since I also hunt in Sweden, Beaver, Fox and Geese is also on its menu. I would like to share some experiences with you. First the choice of caliber; -Ive been using a 5,6X50RM before, but the light bullet left to little margin for bad angel shots, and I was not able to use it for Fallow deer and red deer stalking ind Skotland. - My choice for my K-95 then became the 6,5X57R, it covers a lot more ground, still being a light cartridge. I am currantly using the standard Blaser load with the CDP bullet, and it is very impressing, since May this year, I have shot; 2 roe bucks, 1 Fox, 1 Badger, 1 Beaver and 1 Ferret all one shot kills. I dont plan to use my K-95 for Moose or wild boar, but If I should I would choose the .30 R Blaser cartridge as the a second barrel in your late season stalking. Happy hunting. Jan Ps. I ordered mine in the lux version, arabesk scroll engraving, octagonal barrel, fitted it with a Swarowski 3-9X36 scope, If you wish, Id like to send you at picture of it.

Aw, shame on you, .308??? Considering your handle, anything without a rim is simply not traditional!! Also mil ammo is banned in some countries... And if you handload, you can soup up a 7x65R to .308 pressures, the brass will stand it, just be careful! If I didnt know better I could even imagine you are one of those folks who buy a double in .458 Winnie!! :-) Hermann

aHunter For me a 308 is the best choice for a cartridge in this power range. I use the 308 for target shooting and at work. I have quite a bit of loaded ammo and brass, as well as other hunting rifles in this calibre. I have not had any extraction problems, but since this is not a DGR I do not worry about it. It is almost impossible to find 7x65 ammo here in the states, expensive and special order only. However if I lived in Europe I would get one in 7x65 as I think that too is an excellent calibre. You guys cut me a little slack, after one of my favorite rifles is a 9,3x74R Double, a pretty bold move for a Yank.

Hi Henrik, As for the 5,6X50RM my experience is that it is the same as the .222, and being so, you can use it for roedeer up til 200 meters if you wish, ALWAYS remember to have a clear broad side shot with the light fast bullet!!! Otherwise you can get in to serious trouble because the light bullet not allways give full penetration. Given I should use the 5,6 mm bullet I would choose premium bullets as the BarnesX or othter "hard" bullets. I have shot several roe deers and bucks with 5,6X50RM using the 60 grain Nosler solid base bullet at around 3000 fps. Great performance as long as the shot placement was 100% perfect. Jan

Hello Jan, thank you for the lovely picture. That's a nice roe buck, did you shoot it in Sweden or Denmark? The gun looks nice aswell Both Montero and 1894 talks about a 60 grain loaded to about 3200-3300 fps. And I think that this would be enough for roedeers up to 200 m. Do you have any doudt about this? My plan is to use this barrel exlusivly for game such as roe and smaller (so far I've shot 5 foxes this season). For bigger game I will use a 7x65 barrel. Even though I've considered a 30R Blaser, but I think that a 30 R blaser would be "too much gun" for me. I have shot a lot of mooses with my old 6.5x55 so I won't feel undergunned with a 7x65R Best Regards Henrik

PS. The Roe buck on the picture is from Denmark, I was in Sweden from 16/8 -21/8 and we culled 7 bucks 4 hunters, in a hunting area near Jnkbing...

Keep cool, 450, we just had to get you a little hot. Nothing wrong with the 308, we are talking about the fun side, and tradition in that sense. ( to Carcano: the 8x57I is from 88, the .308 is from later, as you well know. I think I would not have written if 450 had an 8x57I instead of 8x57IRS, perhaps only asked, if he is sure about his chambering ) To all: have fun! Hermann

Hello Jan, I have shot some roe with a 22-250 and that was pretty impressive as long as there wasn't any high grass. I hope that the 5.6x50R will be square in the middle between 22-250 and 222 rem in which case I will be most happy. In the area that I do most of my roe hunting there's a lot of houses and farms and I try to keep the report and noice down as much as possible. This year I've been using a 308 win for my roebucks but that's a bit more power than necessary. Best Regards Henrik

Henrik I am very happy with my choice of the 308 for my K 95 Stutzen. I shot a black bear with it on Sept 6th. I will also use it for deer, wild pigs, and hopefully on sheep and goats one of these days, thus my choice of the 30 cal. If I was a European I think I would pick the 7x65R as I think is would be a good choice for this type of rifle. However I have not had any problems with the rimless case. Let us know what you get and how she shoots.
