RWS 140 gr in 6.5x55 equally effective on mule deer as Hornady SST 130 gr in .270. RWS 6.5 highest MV of all 6.5 ammo, particularly compared to most anemic US loads.

big time sale going on at Midway now on RWS ammo. Just loaded up (pun intended).

What for a round?
We sell a lot of RWS ammo every year in many different cartridges. Our customers using this brand for fox, roe buck, wild boar or red stack. The most bullet design is the KS-bullet, but others are with nearly the same popularly, like the Uni classic or the ID classic. The newest design is the evolution. Its a bondeed construction, with an ballistic cape, like the old H-jacked have. With sell a lot in .300WinMag and .308/.30-06.
RWS is one of the last ammo maker, for rounds like the 5,6x50(R), the 5,6x57, 6,5x68 or other rare, German rounds.
Many hunters/customers are meaning, the RWS ammo is over priced. If you see the prices, you will mean the same. Wink

Martin,
There is a sale on this ammo here in the US right now.

I shoot a .300 win mag - the offering is a 180 gr bullet called the Uni Classic or in a 184 grain RAP X "power bonded".

Another is a .270 win bullet called the H-Pointe Envoltura H in 130 grains.

Another is a .280 Rem in a 162 grain called an ID Classic

They seem like quality bullets but I do not know much about them.

Here´s the website, with the different bullet designs:
http://www.rws-munition.de/en/...tridges/bullets.html
The most designs are very old. The old name for Uni and ID was TUG and TIG, designed from Brenneke in the beginning 20th century. Arguments about the licence of production, cause RWS to find a new name.
The H-jackes is established in the same years.
The only bonded bullet is the evolution. I mean it´s a typical case of German overingeniering.
At the German RWS Web site,
http://www.rws-munition.de/de/...ronen/geschosse.html you can find two leadless bullet designs, the bionic yellow and black. Same problem, other bullets. Overingeniering. The cheaper Barnes bullets or the new S&B exergy can do the same, but for less money.

A friend is shooting the .300WinMag evo power bonded on wild boar and sametimes on roe buck. He means, it´s a good round. In the .270 it would do the same, as other bonded bullets.
The ID classic you can compare with an Speer Grand Slam. Soft bullet front core and harder base core, but without bonding.

Compare the Woodleight weldcore or the Norma Oryx with the evo bullet. Why do you need a rapide x tip? Both first bullet working very well. The RWS bullet is very difficut to produce, like the old H-jacket bullet. The price for one bullet is here in Germany about 1,40€. Other bonded core bullets you get for under 1.- €.
Same with the leadless bullet. Compare a Barnes bullet or the new sellier & bellot leadless exergy. Or the Lapua naturalis. "action tip", "shock grooves", "performance grooves" or other bulsh*t from the marketing section. Do a bullet need this?
We sell a lot of RWS ammo. But I mean, there´re many other, cheaper ammo´s to kill your game.

Martin has it down .... RWS is VERY popular ammunition here in The Fatherland and abroad. Here it is quite expensive.

Unlike this website; where the reloading majority thrive; RWS manufactures primarily upper standard/to premium ammunition for Hunters who DO NOT reload.

While this all has +/- merit depending on what your annual ammunition requirements are; RWS ammunition remains an outstanding concept in theory & in execution; well thought through; uses quality components and like Martin states their bullets are over-engineered (typically Teutonic) but for a given application they work very well.

If they're having a Marketing Promotion in North America and you'd like some great ammo - Why not? It's just that you'll need an advanced degree in Bullets to determine WHICH design is optimal for your Game opportunities.

The biggest argument I heard here is that, "How many rounds a year do you shoot actually shoot at game a year?" If less than 20; buy a coupla boxes and be done with your selection for several years, it will probably work well. If you require more .....

Cheers,

I thought the design was interesting but at that price i`ll find a lot of nice bullets.
Lapua naturalis is around 2 euro so it not to think about.

Hello,

I am a user of RWS ammo mostly in 7x57 and H-Mantle. Still have 4 green 10 round boxes (made in the seventies) of 7x57 H-Mantle, 173 grs. The only wieght in 7mm as you know. Well H-Mantles are only one weight per caliber. I cannot be more satisfied with the performance of these bullet an ammo in many Red Deer and Wild Boar here in Patagonia. The precision is outstanding, very regular and the bullet on game is, well, great!
Some time ago, I did some run out checking of my reloads and just to know, checked also these ammunition. From the 1970s. The runout with the dial comparator is almost none!!!!! less than the minimum graduation!!!!!!! I double an triple checked this...Imposible to reproduce with my reloads with all the care I can have....

The H-Mantel is a very accurate bullet. My 7x57 custom rifle likes especial the heavier bullets between 154grs and 175grs. Best groups I shoot with handloads of 175grs Hornady RN, Speer Mag Tip, the 173grs H-Mantel and 177grs Tig (new: ID-classic). I shoot some old RWS factory loads, made in the 60´s (the old 10 round boxes) and in the 70´s, with the same excellent results like PH. I even mean, the RWS ammo was a little bit better, especial the case brass, as the ammo from this days.

I used RWS a lot in past.
8x57JS
30-06

It is overprized and it lost the game on the market. Beside that we experienced inconsistent quality of loading from lot to lot.
I shoot a lot but never again RWS. Norma, Lapua,Hornady, Federal and Brenneke offers more for less money.
Overingeniering is not always the best rout to get success.

Haven't got any experiences yet, but I might be able to give you feedback soon. RWS is very expensive in Norway, and as I do reload I haven't tested them much.
But I recently bought 7 boxes of 20 for my 6,5x57R, mostly the 127 grain KS bullet.
Bought them from a friend for the low price of 10 Euros per box Smiler
It was even cheaper than buying empties!

Anders that's great because you'll have good cases at the end. The thing is, RWS was excellent 10-15 years ago but then strange things happened (higher pressure, inconsistency ect.) which made lots of us to move from RWS. I'm talking about Croatian market. In 7x64 we never noticed these problems Confused
