How difficult is it for an American to buy a gun in Europe for delivery in the U.S.?

I'm specifically interested in a 9.3x74R double-rifle ---either a used or new one. Are there any websites in English that can help me.

Will be traveling thru Germany & Austria down into Italy --- any gunshops etc I should make an effort to visit to look over their inventory?

Europe is a continent made up of many sovereign countries.

Each country will have it's own laws relating to firearms export.

It would depend on which country you buy the rifle in.

In Spain it is as easy as popping into the gunshop, making yuour choice and paying for it.

The gunshop will take care of the paperwork, which means a permit to export the gun, and will send it to you by a dedicatee courier.

If you stay a few days you might be able to take it back with you.

Same in germany. It is in fact more difficult to import it over there, consult with the BATF before you buy.

I don't have much experience in Italy but in Germany you'll do pretty good at either Kettner or Frankonia, located in most of the major German cities, they are large chains and normally have some used & new 9.3x74R double guns on hand. If you've got someone who can sprechen Deutsch in the neighborhood their websites are easy to find. I would contact then in advance and let then know what you are looking for. Like everwhere else in the world the great deal and exactly the double rifle you want will have been sold the week prior to your arrival.

In my experience, as they are chains if you make thenm aware of your desires and they have used or new guns in stock at various locations they will/may ship then to a store that you would be at to assist you in making a choice. (Don't hold me to this I don't work there - but I know they have done this in the past)!

There are countless small gunsmiths and local stores, if you want to let me know where and when you will be traveling I can probably make some reasonable suggestions.

Helpful for you will be to identify a dealer in the US that would like to work with (or already have in the past) who has an import operation already established. As you've been counselled prior I would also contact your local BATF office.

As an American residing in Germany with the proper creditials to own & purchase firearms I have had both difficulties and seemingly seamless experiences in purchasing firearms in other EU countries, UK, Italy & Spain. It never seems to be the same twice in row!

In Italy more or less the situation is as in Spain, even if I think that if in your country there is any kind of gun license you should exibit it when you will purchase a gun.
One thing that can help in Italy is to make the trader export the puchased gun to a gun shop in your country, where you will get it when you will be back. It is convenient if you continue your travel in another country, not always the bill is sufficient to authorize the transport.
