Hi all,

My wife and I will be in Scotland around New Years this year for a week with my in-laws (they are from Texas, but my sister-in-law goes to St. Andrews). We'll be staying in the Edinburgh area. I would love to go on a hunt while I'm there, but I'm not sure if I'll have time. So, I was wondering what other hunting related things there are to do in and around Edinburgh.

In the event I do manage to slip off for a hunt, could people recommend outfitters?

Thanks!

Brad

Winter can be wonderful or bloody awful. Definitely go to St. Andrews and Inverness if time permits. Visit the gun shops and sporting goods stores. You might want to visit McKay Brown in Glasgow (check to ensure they are not closed for the holidays) http://www.mckaybrown.com/www....own.com/Contact.html. Have a wee dram or two on the whiskey trail. Not hunting, but enjoyable.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for the recommendation.

Any particular shops in Edinburgh to stop in?

Brad,

If you find yourself with a free day, our ground is a couple of hours away by car. Two days on the hill after some red hinds or Roe Does will definitely help work of some of the christmas pudding!!

PM me if you want more detail.

John Dickson & Son on Fredrick Street is worth popping into. A small but well stocked gun room and the staff are friendly.

David Virtue of DVsporting.co.uk has stalking ground literally 30 min outside Edinburgh. In winter you could go for a day on the roe does or if he has an opening, goose flighting, though this is usually booked up a year in advance.

Enjoy Hogmanay in Edinburgh!

Brad,

Try to find a outfitter that do rabbits with ferrets, fantastic fun.

Drop me a pm and I can put you in touch with some guides who can take you out Roe stalking and / or goose flighting.
