It's that time of year when I review my hunting gear for the coming season

I don't know about you folks but I seem to have been left with so many orphaned single gloves over the last few seasons.

God knows how that came about

They shall all be going onto ebay soon - ALL in unworn condition !

Am I the only one this is happening to ?

So what's the best glove warm and dry combo in the market these days ?

Care to share ?

For cold winter hunts i use a leather fullhand glove with wool mittens, its more important what you are warm enuogh to shoot than that you can shoot with gloves on.In the autumns i use a Härkila goretex gloves not so warm but takes the wind and you can shoot in them.

How about layering ?

Waterproof outside glove and an inner warm heat retaining glove ?

Slip both off with larynard before shooting

I am looking for this combination

I find bare index finger a compromised and not ideal

UK product; the both the Shooting or Riding Gloves are perfect either by themselves or as an underlayer for the winter, outstanding dexterity as well and reasonably priced.

Waterproof outside glove and an inner warm heat retaining glove ?

Benjamin,

I use either Cableas or Bass Pro Shop's Realtree camo waterproof big game gloves for the serious cold and wet (reead=especially rain, snow ,sleet, slush) situations.

Since the BPS & Cabelas gloves normally run a tad large (and are actually good like that for insulation) I can easily slip a pair of the WW (MacWet) gloves inside them if the temperature dictates. The WindStopper feature for the MacWets is outstanding that allows their use down to temperatures where the big bulky stuff is then required IMO.

Cheers,

Glomits!

http://www.google.co.uk/imgres...%3BlzXwpOfnzStMXM%3A

Sounds like a curse, but is, in fact, a blessing.

Mittens with an inner glove, the finger cover rolling back to secure with a magnet.

Result is toasty warm paws, with the ability for fine manipulation of bolt/trigger/ammunition. On the stalk, the rolled back finger cover provides cushioning for the knuckles while crawling.

After many years of using these in a fleece construction (warm, but act like sponges) , I finally found the holy-grail - a waterproof glommit by Deer-Hunter. All the benefits, non of the down-sides.

Thanks Ian and Gerry for ideas

I have come to the same conclusion in a round about way

This is my final choice

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2611...id=p3984.m1439.l2649

NOTE there is a trigger finger flap !

http://rab.uk.com/products/exp...xpedition-mitts.html

I bought both on EBAY and the expedition was an unwanted gift

The British army gortex outter will be

Windproof
Waterproof
Noiseless with loop retain to clothing

The RAB expedition grade inner is rated to -40c but not waterproof

with the I achieve layering effect plus all parameters I wanted

Total cost £30 or Euro 40 or thereabout

I can sit in artic weather for hours and can be slip off at the last minute for shooting without noise

Thanks guys

Good decision LH - I have used the same system both in Norway & also Canada & was good down to silly degrees below.

The trigger finger on the army mit is useless, but I found that making a snare out of fine para-cord allowed the mit to be shrugged free when came the time to fire.

A single 'snare' over each wrist was far easier than running a cord between the mits inside your jacket. This was omething my mother did to me as a child - I am still mentally scarred by the experience! Smiler

Rgds

Hestra gloves are brilliant. I was put onto these by a friend out in the Alps last winter - I immediately bought a pair of their army Leather Heliski gloves. Even in strong blizzards, or at altitude on a para glider, hands really toasty. Could I squeeze a trigger with them on - prob not, but takes a moment to slip my left glove off. Will be using them in the hind cull next winter.

I've been using Mc Wet for a few years now and it looks lie about a couple of years ago they took their manufcturing to taiwan and since then their longevity is very limited. Trigger finger wears out fast as does the thumb pad on the top lever operation and inside grip swell on the index finger side.

I still use them during the summer and autumn as up till now I have not found a suitable alternative. I was shown a pair of gloves last week in Africa that I think ay fit the bill so I will let you know.

Ben, Try these

They look a lot more rigid in the pics than they are in hand, but beware they come up small. You may need to see if you can find a size chart somewhere.
