Hello, new to the forum and wishing to pick the minds of some of you. I have recently purchased a Baikal double rifle in 45-70,and the cartridge is relatively new to me. I bought the gun purely for shooting in Europe, where my hunting is in forest and thick scrub. The rifle had a couple of small teething problems, the right-hand trigger pull was horrendous, and I found the sights rather awkward to get along with as I’m used to express sights . Both problems were easily fixed. I’m left-handed and somehow my dealer managed to find a stock with "cast on", how did this I do not know, but good show to him. Anyway, I’m reloading my own ammunition and was wondering if anybody could recommend any suitable loads. My powder choice is somewhat limited due to my location. I have Accurate 5744 and Vectan tu2000,so any useful information reloading from these powders would be greatly appreciated. As I have said cartridge is relatively new to me, and I think the rifle is rated to 28,000 psi. It is mainly for hunting in thick woodland where the range will be short, and a quick double tap is very useful., I have no wish to try to 2000+ feet per second with 500 grain bullets, the rifle would probably not stand that type of use over long and I have a 470 In the cabinet for that. But useful short range, boar capable round loading data would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks. | ||
