I have some friends from Italy looking for pigeon shooting here in the UK. What is the best time of year?
And what would be the avg cost of a good days shooting?

regards
griff

Hi Griff,

If they want an all inclusive package they are probably looking at about £110 per gun per day. That should get them all the kit bar a gun and shells.

Besttime of year will really vary depending on where you are and what you are shooting over. Personally I really enjoy shooting over flattened maize cover or similar in Feb. July can give some excellent sport on laid wheat/barley after a storm, but that is all about timing. The stubbles can also produce a few weeks later. Peas earlier in the year and the famous rape seed fields can produce big bags during the game season.

I would suggest the Feb option if you have an enterprising local shoot that will be happy to flatten their cover crops and earn some money, otherwise there are lots of pigeon guides cropping up these days that will tell you what and when for their specific area.

We had huge numbers on the acorns this year so were shooting (at...) a good few on the pheasant days, but they can be difficult to decoy and get good bags on like this.

Griff,
What part of the country are they staying in?

This is a big point, as the population north of Northampton becomes quite thin.

If they are willing to travel south, give me a call and I'll put them in contact wiith an outfitter.

Griff,
You thought he was happy after that stag!!
We have just got back from South Africa and an amazing 2 weeks. Millwall still hasn't stopped smiling !!

Full report coming soon. And I think Paul still has your ground sheet. I'll make sure he brings it with him in October.
