Hello all,

my shipping container from California cleared Customs in Dublin, and among other things my 2 Quads have arrived.

Honda Rubicon 500 4x4 with Warn winch;
Honda Rincon 680 4x4 with Warn Winch.

Can anyone recommend an Insurance company that might cover the bikes?
My house insurance (with Bank of Ireland( said no, and the car insurance (AXA) dont cover any type of bike.

If it is of any help, we do own some land that is currently a farm.

Thanks,

Paul.

Ireland is the home of the stolen quadbike! They ship them out UK under lorry loads of grain! They're a bad insurance risk in UK over in Eire, I don't expect the insurers are too keen on reinsuring something that they've already paid out on.

Paul, try Quinn Direct, they will write insurance for almost anything, if not, the Farmers Union are quite good for stuff like that.

Just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean they are not out to get you....

Brian,

thanks for your input, I will give Quin a call.

Trans-pond, I am not too sure as to what to make of your post, but I am all too aware of how quickly things can vanish in Ireland.

Paul. it's not personal but as an English farmer we pay more to insure a £3000 atv than a £15000 tractor because their so theft prone.
The theory is most of them go over the sea to Eire via the "travellers." As a result Ireland must be awash with stolen atv's. I would surmise that the insurers wouldn't be overkeen to reinsure stolen kit.
Now telling a stolen quad from a legitimate quad is not easy if neither is road registered so paperwork is largely absent.
In UK we use NFU or TFA/Norwich Union.for farm insurance.

trans-pond is correct.........you're more likely to have someone sell you a nicked UK quad than steal yours.

The buggers over in Ireland must have mountains of them and we all want them back!

Think we could get bush to invade Ireland...liberation of the stolen quad, etc??? dancing

Please note that "Travellers" prefer to be known by the more politically correct terms of "gyppos" and "pikeys". Cool

Regarding paperwork, that I have plenty of, as in California, the bikes come with their own pinkslip, and must be registered (even though they are offroad only).

CaroleNash will only cover bikes in the UK, and unfortunately not the ROI.

I still have a couple of options left.

It also looks like I will be investing in a couple of locks from www.loxsit.com

Their locks seem pretty solid.

Thanks for the help,
P.

Real sore issue there Paul.

Didicoys (as we refer to them) are pretty much universally despised around my neck of the woods are worthless, thieving scum. Turn up uninvited, camp out on others land, thieve anything they can from the local community and leave the land in a filthy state. Never pay tax and never stop demanding from the state.

Not to be confused with the real romany gypsies who are usually good people.

We used to wonder why the didicoys all have Irish accents....it's my belief it's because they or their decendants were cast out like the snakes!
