Here a short hunting story about my hunt last Year. I had the possibility to go hunting in Germany for Moufflon. And my hunting guide took me in a "Revier" nearby Liebenberg in Brandenburg.

The first 3 days we saw only Roe Deers and Dama Dama but no Moufflons. The last hunting day we went out to a "Hochsitz" for the last chance. And then a Moufflon came across the plateau. At approx. 130 meters I could shot this Moufflon.

Moufflon

Additional facts:
Rifle: Blaser R93 Christensens Arms Carbon
Cartridge: .416 Remington Magnum
Case: Federal nickel
Bullet: Gian-Marchet® "Okavango" 278 grains
Powder: Rottweil R901 80.9 grains
Muzzle Velocity: approx. 890 m/s

Then I decided to have a shoulder mount of this Moufflon. And a taxidermist in Thüringen did a great job. Here some additional pictures:

Shoulder Mount 1

Shoulder mount 2

The Moufflon is 5 years old.

Good shooting and good hunting

Bit of an overkill, but my experience with mouflon shows they are tough !

Hunting as he does in a Swiss canton that has 416 as a minimum calibre he took the hunting rifle he was most familiar with?

Hats off to Collani - he is a true enthusiast who has made some amazing technical strides in getting the best out of what the regulations allow including making his own custom bullets!

Nice mouflon

I agree with you 1894. Reto shoots that .416 really, really well. Besides, there is no such thing as too dead...

Technical nit: strictly speaking, a .416 cal is not a minimal requirement for Graubuenden. The smallest caliber allowed (I believe) is the 10.3x60R. The .416 Rem exceeds the minimal caliber requirements, but is quite popular because it offers a flatter trajectory than the 10.3x60R. Collani loads both calibers with light mono metal bullets (of his own design and manufacture) to further improve exterior ballistics. It is quite amazing how well he shoots those big boomers!

On our range, we jokingly insist the hunters from Graubuenden need to pay double range fees - it takes almost two stickers to cover each of their bullet holes in the target... Eeker

@- mike

Well I'm pretty sure if every Graubuenden Hunter is shooting holes like this or like this then it's only needed two stickers each target to cover the 10 holes Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

Good shooting and good hunting.

Yes, shields like this are available for pretty much any size animal. This seems to be a Germanic tradition - at least my taxidermist in Austria uses a lot of shields in this (or similar) styles.

Via this page you can get in touch with my taxidermist. He speaks English and can probably advise you and try to get you the right size shield.I doubt he makes these shields himself, so there is likely a markup:

http://www.karlmatt.com/kontakt.htm

If you feel more adventurous, you can google "trophaeenschilder", and you'll get a bunch of links to (germanic) shops producing these things. E.g.

http://www.jagd-schnitzerei-sh...php?cPath=116_22_107

Be aware, that although you want a shield for a piggie mount, you should NOT search the various websites for "Schwarzwild", which would otherwise be the direct translation of "wild boar". European displays of piggie trophies to 99% are made up of solely displaying the tusks. If you want a shield for a piggie shoulder mount, you are more likely to look for a shield in the "Rotwild" section and make sure you get one the right size (they will probably produce one for you if you provide the measurements).

It is very nice trophy tu2
Congratulations!

They are tough on bullets but when we compared mouflon rams from inland (Germany, Hungary, Slovakia ect.) to mouflon rams we shoot over Adriatic coast in Croatia they are "softer".

The real experience on mouflon is like this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tHpBwJIqjSU

It is hard to get closer than 200m.
