I'm intereste to know how you got on with your Chamois hunt in the Alps. I hunt them regularly here in New Zealand. Would be interested to compare notes.

May I share some pictures of our annual trip in the Alps.

A great landscape

The pic de Bure 2709m, the so called highest chalk drop in Europe. Downhill in the scree, 2 hunters are stalking a pack of moufflons, 8 chamois under the ridge, and a helo above ruining the stalk.

Our lodge, only 2 surviving houses of a derelict village, lost in the mountains.

A view from the lodge : an ancient church.

the chamois has been shot, no small task to collect it on such a deep and slippery slope

sometimes one walks at 1 mile/H. Need to get his breath back at 2000m.

hazardous job, hurrying at nightfall.

a young moufflon. On the left, Bruno* the best guide and chap one can ever imagine, and my cousin

an old chamois I got last year

a 3 years old moufflon got by a ravished youngster Alain, my Sauer 202 near by

The bag of 7 shooters this year, 2 moufflons are missing, still cut up.

May I ask a favour. All we get in the Alps is thanks to our best guide Bruno. This wonderful chap is collecting bottle caps (beer, soft drinks) and I am managing to make weep of joy in bringing him as much caps as I can from any country I visited. If You can send me some for him, You'll throw him into paradise every time. Preferably, dont bend the caps but remove them in gently lifting the edge Thanks in advance

Hi jbderunz

Great pics - thanks for sharing!

The green backpack you see lying on the ground on the second image from the bottom - is that by any chance the Tatonka pack board???

I do believe I have the same and I swear thats the best piece of hunting gear I have ever bought!!! There isnt a more comfortable way to carry loads up to 50 kg!!!

Whats your experience with it?

Happy Hunting!

What do you consider to be more challenging to hunt, chamois or mouflon? I haven't shot a chamois (YET) but have found mouflon to be sharp-eyed and wary, though they weigh quite little (55kgs) and were easy to put down.
