Could someone advise me what either I or my Swedish host needs to do to enable to take my hunting rifle into Sweden next month. I have my EFP but this rarely seems to be enough and I can't seem to find out if there are any other administrative hoops to jump through. If there are I need to advise my host, given my total lack of spoken or written Swedish. Hopefully it's less complicated than getting the rifles into Ireland! We're flying SAS into Arlanda in 6 weeks time - I've spoken to them and it's the usual drill of rifle in locked flight case, ammunition in separate locked flight case, bolt in checked in hold baggage. Advice much appreciated. Thanks, Adam.

It's changed for this year (at least my host is asking for different things) but it's your host who needs to check with Swedish police. You send your EFP and copy of your FAC to your host together with your flight details and which rifle you want to take. He fills in hunting ground etc etc and post it off to the Swedish police. They post your stamped EFP back to you and your Swedish authorisation. Word of warning they want at least a month to which you have to add on a week for postage either side - you need to allow 6 weeks minimum which is really too close for mid October opening unless your host can sweet talk his police. He may be able to do it electronically and you scan your documents which will help get it started but you will still need to send your EFP to be stamped. Good luck - what are you hunting and where? BTW SAS are good.

We have jumped through all of the hoops now - there's a short form that needs to be completed and sent to the police at the port of entry (Arlanda for us), along with copies of our UK Firearms Certicates and an electronic payment of SEK600 per hunter. We left it a bit late, but some skilled grovelling by our host has saved the day. Normally the Swedish licenses are posted to each hunter but our will be waiting at customs at Arlanda. We then present our EFP and the licenses are attached and the rifles checked. We have also bought the annual Swedish Hunting Permit - another SEK300 per hunter. 1894mk2 - we are mostly hunting boar, with a good chance of moose too. Martin Kling, our friend and host, runs the local dog pack for pig hunting (he favours Russian Laikas crossed with Rhodesian Ridgebacks - for their combination of speed, endurance, strength and ferocity apparently)and lives for shooting boar. I'm not sure of the location - Southern Sweden, about 2 hours out of Stockholm. Adam.
