I like single shot rifles. I like takedown rifles. And I like big bore rifles. So..... I have been thinking about a K95 with a bbl in 308WCF [I have quite a bit of 308 ammo and I like this calibre for general purpose use.] Second bbl in 300 Win Mag, for those long range mountain hunts. Third bbl in 10,3x60R Swiss. This would be my fun bbl for wild pigs, bear over bait and even leopard. The 450/400 double rifle I have with a 300gr Hawk at 2330fps has been a great pig rifle, the 10,3 would give similar ballistics. I did a search and saw where my friend Aleko [Heritage Arms had also asked about this combo {great minds think alike }. I would like all of my bbls to be octagon with iron sights. I would appreciate any comments from K95 users and users of the 10,3 Swiss.

It's a great rifle but I would not underestimate the sharpness of recoil in a rifle that is going to weigh around 6.5lbs with scope. Also if you're going to do this properly you should be getting all rimmed cartridges. That way ejection is merely a case (ha ha) of tipping the rifle over. The non rimmed cases are retained by the spring loaded extractor and require flicking out with finger. If you're going to do this rimmed then you would go:- 7x57R instead of the 308 30R Blaser instead of the 300mag. Good luck

@N E 450 No2 As Graubuenden Hunter (Switzerland) Im using this caliber 10.3x60R. I used in Germany for boars, in Africa for Oryx, Kudu, Impala and Steenbock. More information about my experiences with the 10.3x60R in Africa please see this link: http://www.collani.ch/Afrika-Main-e.htm During my hunting season in the European Alps I use it for Roe deer, Red Stag, mountain chamois and even for the European Ibex. The accuracy of that bigbore caliber is fantastic, compared to .416RemMag and schtuff like that. Please see this clover leaf at 109 yards with three shots: http://www.collani.ch/images/Scheibe-8.jpg For more information about the ballistics please click this link: http://www.collani.ch/Afrika-Ballistik-e.htm The recoil is comparable with the .300 Weatherby Magnum. If you can manage this recoil you will manage the 10.3x60R as well. Please make sure that the K95 rifle is at least 4 kg (8lbs) or more. With a kick-stop you can reduce the recoil. Im using my R93 and Im quite satisfied with it (saludos JOHAN) Good shooting and good hunting Collani

I also like the Blaser breaktop, single-shot rifles (K77, K95). With their "Jaeger" locking system, they are amazingly strong for breaktop rifles - easily handle magnum cartridges. As pointed out above, it is indeed true, that single shots are probably best equipped with rimmed calibers, although they can be made to work well with unrimmed cases as well. A rimmed cartridge allows for a simpler extractor, that is the main difference. That said, I have long dreamt of a K95 in .270 Win, so rimmed or not... It is also true, as both 1894 and Collani have pointed out, that the K95s are pretty light and dainty rifles. I personally would not want to shoot something like a .300 Win Mag or a 10.3x60R in a rifle as light as the K95, but to each his own. You may well be less recoil sensitive than I am. In general the K95 is a neat little package, they are usually very accurate too... - mike

quote:IThe trouble with a kick stop is going to be the balance with a standard 23.6" 308 barrel. The stock design has a straight comb which is good but is rather narrow in footprint for big kickers. [ 12-08-2003, 18:42: Message edited by: 1894 ]

I have shot and used several k 95's. I do not find the recoil prohibitive. I have thought about a 9,3x74R barrel for mine. A kick eeze pad really helps. Aleko

@all According to the book Cartridges of the world 9th edition: Historical Notes. A Swiss target cartridge originally for single-shot Swiss-Martini action rifles the 10.3x60R is nothing more than the Swiss version of the obsolete British 450/400 2 3/8 inch Black-powder Express. Some Swiss-loaded ammunition is so marked on the box. Some modern bolt-action rifles have been made in Switzerland in this chambering. The British loaded a 255-grain lead bullet, but the Swiss use heavier bullets of softpoint or full-jacketed type with smokeless powder. The Swiss loading is in the same class as the 405 Winchester and would do for any North American big game at short to medium range. This chambering is still popular in Switzerland and guns and ammunition are still manufactured in Switzerland and in Germany by RWS and SM-Thun (RUAG). In at least one Swiss canton, the 10.3x60R is the only lawful cartridge for big game hunting. Bullet diameter is 0.415 inch. Gentlemen, thanks for the info. Collani I had actually done a search and found your site. Very good info. This "K95" project is kind of a long term idea. The multiple bbls would enable me to enjoy this rifle to its fullest.
