I am looking for a good fleece or synthetic shirt to replace some heavy cotton ones which getting a bit old. I am looking for something of decent quality to act as a thermal mid layer. I looking for something like a Norwegian Army shirt but in a Polar Tech 200 fleece or similar synthetic. Bushwear UK are offering the Stoney Creek "Two Pocket Shirt" made of "Performance Plus" shown below: This looks ideal but Stoney Creek are a bit vague as to what the fabric actually is or what it specs are. Anybody seen or owned one, or know of a similar product? I am been to a few climbing and camping shops but I can't bring myself to buy bright blue or red even if it is for a mid layer! Some of the best fleece apparel I have run into is made by a NZ company "Swazi" - here a link to one of their retailers: NZ Swazi Retailer. There are actually multiple brands in NZ/Aus that make fleece gear, another is "Ridgeline". Another of my favourite fleece shirts is one I got from Cabelas some years back. It combines fleece with a windstopper membrane, so it is not as quiet as a pure fleece shirt. But it is a godsend when the wind is up, and I usually wear it under some outer layers, so noise is not so much of an issue. - mike

Pete Have you tried a thermal sports vest such as Helly Hanson or Musto? They are very good next to the skin, as they enable you to wear cotton or wool on top without fear of damp cold sweaty natural fibres next to the skin. I often wear one under a Norweigian Army Shirt when active stalking is on the cards.
