Excuse my ignorance, but what is a montaria/monteria?

I always assumed it was the "Ranch" over which the hunt took place, but now it seems it is the hunt itself...

If it is the latter, is there a word for the hunting reserve over which the hunt takes place?

Yes naintal we have a lot of languages here in Spain don't tell me to learn Euskera ( Basque country Language ) is as easy as Finnish , about eh Monteria and what its' I find this in the web:
The Montera consist on a great hunt beating using dogs, all in one, and it represent a classic of the Spanish hunting tradition. The Montera can be considered an strategic military operation carried on by a wide group of hunters that sometimes grew up to 80 and 800 dogs (there is always an average number of 10 dogs per hunter). This complex and heterogeneous operation depends on a great number of factors, and their correct application contribute in a decisive way to the success or failure of the whole strategy.

In this kind of hunting technique, as well as some other in the noble art of hunting, there are no advances. On the contrary, it will be necessary for us to learn the advices and norms of those hunters that bequeathed us the classic masters of this noble hunt art.

The Montera is, without any doubt, a completely different kind of hunting than those practiced in Central Europe, where is considered more important to get a good trophy than the number of trophies gotten. In the Montera the quality of the trophy depends on the land owners and the gamekeepers more than on the hunter skills.

There are three main factors that determine the success at a Montera hunting:

1.- First of all the Registro de mancha or registration of the game entries and outlays that occurs in the area where the hunting is going to take place. This is made in order to fix the number of animals that could be found themselves inside the hunting area.

2.- Armada consist on the way of placing the hunters, normally in little groups located in those places where the game tends to escape.

3.- Suelta The number of hunting beaters and dogs used in the whole Montera, based on the terrain quality and the type of game to be hunted.

Getting ready for my first montaria of this season!
Tomorrow, together with my hunting group, I will be hunting our area for wild boar. I was there last Saturday checking it, baiting with corn and oil. There was spoor everywhere, so I expect, if weather permits, a good bag!
It will be a very small montaria: just 20 hunters or so.
I will post photos of the event (including some of the wild boars hopefully! )
