Ordered two large Dehydrators from Cabelas($1000), no problem I thought, until through came the e-mail "goods restricted", so quick call to customer service should resolve this problem. Not so!
They couldn't tell why they were restricted only that they had to conform to federal laws..
End of story or so I thought, e-mailed customer service epressing how dissapointed I was, and that I would raise a thread on AR to discuss their export policy, low and behold an e-mail confirming that the goods would be shipped to my exporter,Fantastic news, but wait! another e-mail,your order is cancelled> Okay will have to source them from somewhere else, But wait another e-mail, "your order is being shipped".
These guys don't know their arse from their elbow.
This is the latest from the soap they call Cabelas. Mad Mad

Yes, all these export restrictions are a pain in the posterior. Nobody really seems to know what is restricted, and what is not. I had one company refuse to sell me a set of bases and rings - items which don't seem very threatening to me. The fact that a big company like Cabelas can't seem to get the story right is on the one hand disappointing, on the other hand you are really dealing with people, and the more people involved...

As much as I have enjoyed shopping with Cabelas over the years, I try to stay away from them if I want merchandise shipped outside the US. Their foreign shipping costs used to be (still are?) calculated as a percentage of the cost of the items ordered. That works very well if you are ordering heavy and cheap items, but as soon as the price of the items rises, it turns into a rip-off. Why they simply can't charge actual shipping costs (plus a fee for handling) is beyond me.

When I last placed a clothing Order with Cabelas I sought to add 2 elasticated cartridge holders of the type that slip over the butt of the rifle, like those offered by Uncle Mikes, they offered these for only $5 each so I asked as part of my order for 2, in an e-mail response all items were confirmed as available but the cartidge holdres were restricted items and could not be shipped- maybe something to do with weapons of mass destruction- well the things do have elastic in them!!

It is sad times in which we live

Just had notification that the order has been cancelled.
Their excuse is that it is governmental legislation.
Must be that they are weapons of mass dehydration... Mad
What next. Mad
If anyone knows where I can buy a large dehydrator then let me know..

Not to pick a fight but, YOUR government controls what comes into your country, not Cabela's. You might try calling the customer service line for Parliment and telling them your posting a thread about tyranny on AR and see what that does. I feel for you guys and pray we don't follow the lead of Europe and the UN. Sorry to hear of your troubles, especially with Cabela's, I have never had anything but exemplary service and products from them.

Planemech,
Not to pick a fight Big Grin but it's the US govt which requires an export license for certain gun related items. The problem is that many great US companies are either confused about the rules, scared of making an error, or have made a decision not to bother with the hassle of dealing with foreign orders.

Luckily, I've found a few online retailers who will still deal with me - Midsouth Shooters, Lock, Stock and Barrel and Sinclairs to name a few. And I must add I just ordered some reloading manuals from Cabelas without any problem. They fell under the 'heavy and cheap' category so I was happy with the 20% of value surface mail shipping cost!

These US govt. rules have nothing to do with the import country's laws, which may or may not be another problem.

Dear Maureen,

Your order has been cancelled due to the dehydrators cannot be shipped outside of the United States. The restriction may be electrial,
size and weight. Cabela's has chosen to comply with Federal Laws.

We apologize for any inconvenience.

this was the e-mail from Cabelas.
The size and weight was not an issue as we were shipping to an exporter in Houston.

Just got an e-mail from them to buy something for father day!!
perhaps I will order two dehydrators killpc

scr83jp,
thanks for the reply just ordered two from sausagemaker.com. no problems!!
Apparently one of the reasons for limiting export is that if the patent is not current, they are frightened of them being shipped off to china for cloning..

One othe reasons for buying in the US is cost!
certain items, dehydrators included are half price..

It's cheaper to ship from and buy in the US than buy in Scotland? So how about that call to parliment customer service about tyranny!

Conifer,
thanks for the offer, but the ones we ordered are small commercial ones "D12"from the sausagemaker.com
We already have 2 of the excalibur 9 tray, these are currently being sold here in the UK for $448 huge difference in price even after paying taxes..

We get the shitty end of the stick when it comes to value for money here in the UK.
Try paying $8.80 a gallon for fuel Mad

To many dead beat politicians wages to pay Frowner

Griff,

US goods sold over here are generaly the same price in pounds here as they are in dollars there.

An example - McMillan US $425, over here from the UK distributor £400 odd. Ordered direct from McMillan £272 (£15 of which was a parcelforce fee for taking £44 tax from me Mad)

As you so rightly point out if you can deal with a US company that will sell direct then even if you pay the VAT on import it works out considerably cheaper.

I saw gun review in one of your sporting magazines and was shocked to see the cost of Winchester featherlite rifle there, better than $1000. It was funny I had just passed a rack full of them at a sporting goods store on sale for $469 or close to that. I choked. I love to complain about oppressive taxes here, I'd probably be thrown in jail there.
