Bear kills man in forest May 18 2010 at 11:08AM By Boris Babic A man has been mauled to death by a bear in Bulgaria, local media reported on Tuesday. Regional police in Smolyan, 170 kilometres south-east of Sofia, confirmed on Tuesday that a 65-year-old man was killed by the bear, the Sofia News Agency said. The man disappeared on Monday afternoon while in the forest collecting firewood. Residents of the village Kutela, high in the Rhodopi mountains, found his mutilated corpse. Now the people are fearful because there are many bears in the area. Frequent attacks on beehives and domestic animals indicate that hunger is driving them closer to humans. - Sapa-dpa Kathi kathi@wildtravel.net 708-425-3552 "The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page." | ||
