I see there is a bit of banter lately on Reobucks, so will put this hunt for Roebucks in Poland out for info.

I had a very interesting hunt in Poland for Rehbuck in May 2010. Did all the research and set it up myself. Since I'm stationed in Germany was not that difficult, also meaning that we could drive and have wheels there. Took a fellow Yooper Michigander with me. I speak German but that didn't help me out very much! My Mom's family came from Poland so grew up eating Punchki's (Paczki), Gwoompki's (Golabki), and Chadnina (Czarnina). Families all got land in the Thumb but had to clear it, quite a chore! Anyways I always wanted to visit and experience it, so no better time to go while I'm over here on this side of the pond. Everything went very well, and we saw a lot of deer. The Revier we hunted had a very good population, I would say I saw between 20 and 50 deer every day, with a lot of bucks and most times a couple really good ones. Enjoyed the experience and the food. The area we hunted was mostly fields, with brush, small woodlots, ditches, etc. Did a little sitting in the high seats and also stalking. Was a large Revier, 4000 hectar or about 10000 acres to roam. The people were friendly, and the guides knew the layout and where the deer were.

I took my Blaser Bockdrilling, and used 30-06. I have never bought any factory ammo for it and have had it for 15 years now. This load was 55gr H4350 pushing 180gr Swift A Frames. I find they do very little meat damage on Roe Deer, important when hunting Europe, plus they will take the largest Boar out lickety split. Boar were there but I took no shots, either to skittish or no opportunity. They would have been shot if they happen to be in the area but were not my main goal. Am very satisfied with the trip, I did not go to shoot every buck I saw and actually the first day did not shoot at all though I had several opportunities. I did shoot a fox with the Hornet the first day though. I wanted to experience a little bit of the old World and hunt for a couple good bucks and that's what I shot. A memorable experience I often look back on, Waidmannsheil, Dom.

The old checkpoint North of Frankfurt Oder, it was empty!

When you enter, the sign basically has all the 'rules of the road', most of Europe is very similar and I didn't have any problems driving around.

I found a friend on the Guide's farm.

Countryside was a mixture of woodlots and farmfields.

Very good buck, good mass, Gross 445 grams.

Another good buck but didn't have the mass, forget what the trophy weighed.

I call this one my Polish/German Rehbock. As we hunted early in the season, the deer had not completed coat changes from winter to summer as you can tell in the pics. So I shot another buck in Germany last summer and kept the hide, and had the Polish Rehbock mounted as the Trophy. This is the larger Rehbock from above head/shoulder mounted.

Dom,

Waidmannsheil, my friend.

I was in your neck of the woods, Warren, MI, this week. Not that far from the thumb.

Very nice looking buck.

I don't spend a lot of time on German forums, but here are a couple you can look through. A good one for Germans is: Wild und Hund

Another newer one, for Europeans and has an English section is: Yes We Hunt

I'm sure there are others but those are the ones I occasionally visit.

Waidmannsdank! Was a good experience, lots of Rehwild, and would like to go back, but like everything, so many things to do and so little time.

Hey Don, Warren eh, been there a time or two Wink
