For those members who are older than shall we say 40 years old....( I am going to get shot down for this)

Do you remember the days when there was no internet.

If you want to learn something or enquiry about shooting, you go to find / buy or borrow a book or to enquire from your piers at the gunclub. I remember writing a letter to Elmer keith at Guns and Ammo and receiving a written reply 03 months later. What a joy ! I still have this letter in my scrap book ! Must be worth more than my double ...

Campside fire talk was informative, enjoyable whereby hunters share their experiences and rants.

Now its seems a lot of us are "internet markman"
We all shoot 0.25 inch groups everyday of the week! I will put my hand up and plead guilty for a start.

My question is "ARE WE BETTER in MARKSMANSHIP than we were shall we say 15 - 18 years ago without the internet ?

Over to the forum.

I dont think so myself.

There will always be those that brag, or exagerate, whether on the net or by the fire.

However I have had the pleasure of actually shooting and hunting with a bunch of AR members.

Many of them after seeing and reading their posts for quite a while.

So far I have not met any "posers".

I am not a better marksman than i was 15 years ago. 20 years ago most hunters were happy with a 3inch group. But now with better scopes, bipods and sandbag you can do better (not in the normal hunting conditions).
Here in Sweden many hunters did only fire their rifle at hunt(15-20y. ago). Now you must pass a shooting test for moose hunt.
If you look at internet you find both young internet use hunters and old experienced hunters.

The Internet has helped me a lot with my reloading. There is a wealth of information about tools and techniques, which would otherwise have been hard to come by - if you had to rely on gunrags, say.

I think the quality of the information available to hunters / shooters has rocketed due to internet forums such as this.

Previous to 10-12 years ago, I know I was dependent for information on shooting magazines and whatever "advice" I picked up in gunshops.

No doubt there is crap on the web, but you soon learn who is reliable and who is a bullshitter. The quality of advice I have been given on this site, plus a few others, is off the scale compared to the information available pre-AR days.

On the rare occasions I listen to the conversation in gunshops these days, I shake my head at the rubbish I hear.

I am certainly a better rifle shot than I was 15 years ago, the every day .25" group is a different matter.......

Just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean they are not out to get you....

I'm definately a better marksman than I was 15 years ago - but old(er) age is a steep price to pay for enhanced shooting skills.

Personally, I'm just amazed at the number of .25" rifles out there today; especially at exteneded ranges, 250, 300 & 400 meters but I'm not one to query other's success - I hope they enjoy themselves regardless of how optimistic their measuring techinques are.

I consider the Internet a Big Plus; a sorta added dimesnion to my enjoyment of shooting & hunting.

Trading, sharing experiences as well as continuing the "Learning Curve".

I'd spend more time on this topic but I'm off for a coupla days of Roe Buck hunting, so gotta go.

Cheers,

I am with Gerry on this one,

I have insights and gear today that I thought to be as reachable as the moon five years ago,

I do a lot of forum shopping to get the know how that I desire and need,

The "curve" is a whole lot steeper today than 15 years ago, ohh btw perhaps I was not asked since I am only 34, Gerry can I borrow six years from you?

In short no, I am not an online onehole shooter but I am a better shot, yes.

Best regards Chris

LondonHunter, you are right! the whale has to be a trout again as it is, As the hunter told to the fishermen.

now speaking between you and me, how can you survive shooting 0.25inch groups? I think that they are too large, I normally (daily) shoot groups large the half of your in all light and weather and health conditions, with any caliber, rifle, cartridge reloaded or not. Wink

What do you say? why do you repeat to me that the whale has to be a trout? OK ok I was joking I do it only a pair of times daily Big Grin

there are to many snipers out there that hav never shot passed 100 yards
untill that day happens then i feel their bollocks will not hav dropped
as they only read what is acceptable not what they or their rifle is capable of

what has improved is the availability of good information online. This inturn has allowed us to be selective in where we buy our produce from, no longer are we limited to being charged the earth by the local gunshops, when it is plain to see who is competetive..
The advent of better quality powder and bullets has led to a rise in accuracy along gun manafacturers, who at the end of the day, because of this world wide communication can no longer afford shoddy workamanship..

I think the ability of some was always there, it just takes all the right components to bring it all together...

I am the best shot, most knowledgeable gun vault, best looking, most accurate and best dressed man I know........ on the internet!

Outside of the internet I am bald, 26% body fat, live in a dirty house I don't clean, have a lot of nice guns, still know more than 95% of the rest of the world on guns and shooting, am a very good rifle shot, a decent shot with a pistol, and a 50 out of 100 clays shotgun shot. I don't own tweeds, a land rover, or a million dollar spread, but I have a good time.
