Sauer 202 vs Mauser 03

I am still stuck with this 8x68S rifle with a synthetic stock issue!
I started by choosing a Sauer 202 Synthetic, but latter on the guy at the gun shop came with the proposal of replacing it (as the model wasn’t immediately available in that calibre) by a Sauer 202 Team XT.
Now it seems that even that other model will take some time to be available!

Meanwhile I have found, in another gun shop, a Mauser 03 rifle in 8x68S and they say they can have a synthetic stock for it in about a week.
I don’t like the Mauser safety system that much but, apart from that, the rifle seems to be of similar quality as the Sauer 202.
But I have also heard rumours about the 03 not being a very accurate rifle!?

Anyone here has had actual experience with both? If so, which one do you like the most? What’s your advice?

Thanks,

B.Martins

B.Martins, I have seen a couple of Mauser 03's over the past year, both with timber stocks.

I sort of see them as a cross between the Sauer 202 and the Blaser R93, they have a lot of Blaser like features but in a more conventional package - The three rifles are all from the same stable.

I thought they were well made, but I did not like them, they seemed rather inelegant - particularly in stock configuration - compared to the Sauer.

Can't comment on accuracy as I have not seem one at the range.

Oh well,

I have seen a couple of M03 and I don´t like them much. The Sauer 202 is a brilliant rifle, so don´t take any 2nd choice.
All M03 showed that their bolt action was not running nearly as smooth as the S20´2 does. I also don´t like their scope mount and the overall look of how they are made.

Take the 202 and wait for it!

I was really dissapointed with the stock color and design. I was hoping for more but it left me wanting. I don't need it to be the same as the Orange blaser professional, but something nicer than what it is would be nice.

Grey and black or navy blue and black. Black and black is kind of blah.

The Sauer 202 is an excellent rifle. You won't be dissapointed.

How is the two piece stock on the sauer? Any risk of losening up, starting to rattle?

Nortman, the Sauer design and build is bomb proof. I have never had a rattle or anything loosen on mine.

I'll second that. My 202 has fired >1200 shots between its 2 bbls. (7x64 & .30-06) and everything is still tight, including groups.

3 shots do not make a group, they show a point of aim or impact.
5 shots are a group.
