The ban on shooting wild fowl and waders is extended to N Ireland as of Wednesday 06/01/10.

England can't be far behind.

They report that this is the first time this has been used, but I seem to remember shooting suspensions of this type in the 1980's??

Cold snap predicted to continue for at least the next seven days.

Could be right or could be time to buy some sunscreen. Who knows with the Met Office forecasts?

We've got a covering of about three inches of snow at the moment that has come down in the last hour or so... It looks magical out there but I don't think 'll be going shooting tomorrow mng if it continues.

I remember as a kid that virtually every year there was a ban on wildfowl and waders. We expect a ban to come into play by the end of this week, although I didn't let the guns shoot woodcock on saturday as we had already had the best part of 10 days of frost.

I do enjoy stalking in winter weather but not so keen on the state of play after gralloching!!!

Some of the wild life will thrive during this hard spell and i must admit to liking the snow.

Snow hunting rule #1 - always change out of white's prior to gralloching!

Actualy it's quite easy to not make too much of a mess gralloching in the snow. Scoop out all snow in a 4'x2' area, gralloch the deer in this and tip out all the blood etc. Put deer to one side and replace the snow over the blood etc. If it's cold and there's a few inches of snow then it will cover all the blood.

Roe stalking in this powdery snow is merely a case of locating the nearest oil seed rape fields. Woodland deer have a particular liking for yew if pheasant feeders aren't around.

Good luck

1894,

It look slike we don't have any Yew as the deer are queuing up at the feeders!!

There's a herd of 40 Does that is rattling about this week emptying the feeders, so tomorrow should see some venison in the larder.

I gralloched a Sika in the middle of a snow covered field last week.

Looked like a scene from the Texas Chainsaw massacre... Big Grin

I did kick clean snow over it to take the bad look away....

i had five shot on the hill in the snow, just started on the last one .when a air/sea rescue helly flew by spotted me and came back.
the guy hanging out the door was taking pictures,it must have looked bad.i got them back down to the landrover and noticed i left my buck where i worked on the last animal .fxxk 40 mins back up the hill.
that was a few years ago now ,stalking in the snow is hard work.

The key is to dig the pit clear before you start, then you can make it invisible when you kick the snow back over. White suits get red even through dragging so they are best removed until you start out again.
