Dear All Any good tips on how to use a Buttolo call to attract the roe bucks. There is a nice silver medal buck in my wood who is extremly shy and needs a bit of coaxing out. Hunting is getting as close as you can, shooting is getting as far away as possible.

piu, piu, piiiiiiu... I don't thind its possible to distance learn how to play the buttolo but I would not mind paying you a visit, calling your silver medal buck and shooting it myself I think the the best way to learn is watching someone else doing it for you Now seriously, in the BDS website there is full information on how to call bucks, even with a recorded demonstrations. I don't have the url addres but google will hel you out. best regards, Montero

Mark. May be an obvious point - but I think it is best to only call during the rut! Indeed, I only take a call into the woods once I am certain the rut is well under way. Any other calling will just educate the beast - and come the day, instead of steaming towards you, he will likely sneak off - cursing hunters! I have only had luck with the Buttalo once it had been tuned. This is where a tape casette is good if you are not sure as to the calls and sequence. PM me - I may be able to help with a casette - its cheaper than trying to feed Montero for a week! Rgds Ian Just taking my rifle for a walk!........

Place call in jacket pocket and inadvertantly squeeze it while getting down from high seat because you have had enough. The buck will instantly appear. If you don't like waiting do it as you get into the seat

The Buttolo is excellent call. Used normally (on the Continet) for the RUT (middle/end July thru 1st week August). Reason is that the call is a Doe/Fawn call not a Doe/Buck call and the Bucks come/adjust themselves to looking for a free piece of ass since the Fawn is calling Mamma. Works Great/Tremendous/Super for the START of the Rut. Get set up and wait for 10-15 minutes. One call series = one bleep/call call per quarter hour. Remember - ONE call per 15 minutes. I've had Does put their foot on the lower rung of the High Seat ladder looking for their fawn. It works great if you know how to use it! NOTE: 1942Mk2 has it right - when you think it doesn't work - it works! Best when it shouldn't have! Thanks pal, like me you've done this before - Blaah-ew! Cheers, Number 10

Dear all Does anybody have any experience of using Roe antlers by clashing them together to imitate 2 bucks fighting? How effective is it and if this does work, how is it used to best effect?

Buttolo's are brilliant for calling in muntjac as well as roe. Muntjac will come to the call willingly anytime of the year. Unlike roe that will only come in during the rut. I would rather hear the crack of a rifle or the bang of a shotgun than listen to the finest orchestra. (J.A. Hunter)

Here is an example of the roe doe's contact-call: http://www.stabilotherm.se/3schmal.wav A lighter tone imitate the fawn's contact call, and can attract bucks but does as well. It will work during the rut, but once it is over the buttlo loose its attraction. A good rule is also not to practice on your own land, since the bucks get used to it, so practise on some one elses land! Further, it will not work as well on open land as inside a the forest. A normal way of calling is perhaps 3 contact calls, then wait around 2 minutes, 3 more contact calls, wait 4-5 minutes and start over.
